This is one of my favorite Ye verses. And "Heard 'Em Say" is one of those songs that, on paper, sounds like it should suck hard. Adam Levine? But I can't imagine it any other way. Kind of like "Homecoming" in that sense. But Heard is a better song.

My dad wrote me after the Kanye show. He's always appreciated my taste in music but he can't get his head around why I like Kanye so much. But he saw footage from the Saint Pablo tour and read glowing reviews of the show I attended and he wrote to say, "Ok, so... where do I start?"

Keep in mind, my father's in his '60s. I wasn't going to tell him to listen to "I'm in it" or... well, anything after 808s really. But he's a huge Beatles fan, so I recommended "Heard 'Em Say" because of the clear influence of Rubber Soul and Revolver on the chamber-music vibe of Late Registration.

He listened and wrote back... after years of kind of being a dick about Kanye, even when "Only One" came out... and he said, "Ok. I get it now".

I also recommended "RoboCop." I don't think he listened to that one. Heh. Maybe he finally has some respect for Kanye, or at least my Kanye fanaticism, but he's not going to become a fan any time soon.

Posed an interesting conundrum though. How do you respond when your geriatric parent asks you for Kanye West recommendations? With my mom it was much easier (one listen to "Hey Mama" and she was like, "Ok, he's not so bad") but my dad really posed a challenge.

Happy to see Kendrick back on there as well. I don't know that I personally view untitled unmastered. as a proper "album" (I used to, and it definitely has enough quality moments to warrant such consideration, especially when weighed against the rest of the year's hip-hop), but now I guess I see it as more of a TPAB companion EP. If only because of how brief it is, and how one of the songs is just kind of a throwaway reprise of an earlier song.

I also can't quite decide which I like more between Blank Face LP and The Sun's Torade. At first it was def Rashad, but I slept on Blank Face for a while, and it's really grown on me since then.

I think it's a great album, but it hasn't gone over so well with the rest. I think only Louder has even mentioned it.

Yes, it's very good. Not best of the year good, or remotely close, but definitely top 5 worthy in hip-hop. I was lead to believe it would be a big industrial rap crazy noise grind fest, and was pleased to hear that it's actually a good deal more diverse and textured than that.

We don't talk about albums like we used to here. Streaming and quality issues among vetted artists have really altered the way we converse. Used to be, when a new Ghostface dropped, there were 3-4 pages of comments about it. Now It's like, "Really? Nobody has listened to the new De La Soul album that came out 2 months ago? Fucking why?!"

But I like Atrocity Exhibition a lot. Not sure I like it more than Old or XXX, but it's dope as hell.
