I went to see Morton Subotnick+Llevan yesterday.

One of the best concerts in a very very long time. Hell, the dude is 84 years old and delivered a show that most "electronic" music producers can only dream of. Beautiful.

Severian 01.24.2018 11:55 AM

I’ve been asked to go see Jack White. I might go just to hang out with some friends, but I’m not excited about it at all.

White Stripes won me over with their live show in the early-‘00s, but I don’t give a shot about Jack solo.

_tunic_ 01.26.2018 12:59 PM

coming Monday: Nils Frahm
March 1: Lee Ranaldo

and in between, I might see any of the following as they are all coming by near me:
Bettie Serveert
Flying Horseman
Magnapop
Esmerine

Peterpuff 01.26.2018 01:23 PM

Just got my ticket for Slayer's final tour Dallas show.

Ooh. I’d go to that.

greenlight 01.30.2018 01:28 AM

hey, Big Brave are coming to Prague!I think I will go.

_slavo_ 01.30.2018 08:38 AM

I'll be supporting M.E.S.H. soon, so I guess that will be the only concert I'll go to in a long time.

_tunic_ 01.30.2018 01:05 PM

didn't know they were still touring!

Haha, clever. I actually chuckled.

noisereductions 02.16.2018 09:40 AM

I realize that I set myself up for ridicule time and time again, but whatever...

So The Smashing Pumpkins announced their "reunion" tour, which ultimately just means that James will now play w/ Billy & Jimmy. I mean, Jimmy has been involved with like 90% of Billy's projects post-Machina anyway. It's also funny to call it a reunion given that "The Smashing Pumpkins" have been putting out albums using that name for years. So yeah this is totally just James Iha re-joining the band.

ANYWAY, what makes the tour exciting is that they're doing setlists that are totally culled from their 90's output. They specifically said in the press release that this tour will be setlists of songs from Gish through Machina. So that's awesome. My wife and I are planning to catch them in July.

ALSO, we're thinking about seeing a Pixies/Weezer show in July as well. I think she's more excited about that one than the SP one actually. These are three of my favorite bands, so I'm just plain excited.

ilduclo 02.16.2018 10:04 AM

Finally going to a show coming up. There was a free jazz duo playing tonite in Tiny Town, but the show will be marred by a bunch of local noisicians who seem to ruin just about every house show...but get to see the mighty YOB coming up soon after in the historic Woodmen of the World hall!

_tunic_ 02.16.2018 01:42 PM

Yob is a brilliant live band! Would love to see them again sometime soon
Just saw that they released a "new" album last year , will check it out tomorrow. It's a rerelease, but I don't know it yet. Really new album will be out in the summer though

What's most fun is to stand a few rows back and see all the heads in front of you in unison going up and down in slow motion :D

Ya, I will likely be going to that here in OKC. Had not heard that about their 90s era stuff making up the set-list though. That is enjoyable news to hear.

I missed a chance to see Pixies a little while ago with Paz. Not sure what I think about that, which is odd, because Paz has actually been one of my favorite bassists for some time now. She transfixed me with Perfect Circle and solidified my love with Entrance Band. But, I mean...Kim Deal is just so integral to what the Pixies were. Luckily, I might be catching the Breeders tour though.

Seeing Pixies with Weezer does sound like a fun nostalgia trip for sure though. Should be a fun night for certain. Hope you two have fun!

noisereductions 02.21.2018 02:18 PM

Paz really is awesome. Her work w/ Zwan was awesome as well.

Ya, I never got so into Zwan. Not for any reason in particular I suppose, just did not seek them out and listen. I suppose that might have been stemmed a little from an annoyance with Corgan around Infinite Sadness era which continued on a bit, but not sure. I also enjoy Pajo's playing, so it really kinda boggles me why I never listened to that Zwan album in full.

I may have to go seek out some Zwan and give them a listen today. Do you know if Paz contributed much of her own parts for them, or was it more just playing what Corgan wrote, you know? Just curious.

Like said, it was her lines and style with Entrance Band that really hooked me hard. I feel like she just has such a solid hold on what her role can and should be as a bassist.

_tunic_ 02.27.2018 12:45 PM

I truly hate festivals but the Sunday lineup for the Cactus festival (in Brugge, Belgium) is stunning: http://www.cactusfestival.be/2018/programma_15_nl.asp

Nils Frahm
Mogwai
Slowdive
Goldfrapp
Suuns
Strand Of Oaks
Riley Walker
The Mistery Lights

I don't know the last three but all others are yummy. Well, Godfrapp don't know anymore, I loved the very first album then I lost them. But still wouldn't mind seeing them once more.

Lineup for the other days isn't complete yet, but not really for me. Triggerfinger etc.

Besides that:
Godspeed You Black Emperor are coming to Antwerpen in July, at a wonderful open-air theatre. Definitely going there!

I'm not certain, but that album feels like it had the bands full input. I love that album. Highly recommended.

ilduclo 03.12.2018 02:09 PM

taking a little trip downriver to see Phew. Saw her once in Yoshihide's New Jazz Orchestra. Among my favorite weird female vocalists, along with Jarboe, Diamanda, Haco, C Carter, Sachiko M, Junko, La Barbera, M Monk,Klein....bring em on

Junzo is a true Road Warrior and an amazing person and an incredible guitarist. Anyone would do well to see him at any opportunity.

guest 04.16.2018 08:49 AM

indeed, stunning guitarist. with takahashi he was really elevated, helps that he was playing with someone who's quite easily one of the finest drummers this planet's ever seen but even solo junzo is just a cut above, truly deserves to be mentioned in that pantheon of great japanese guitarists with jutok, mizutani, haino, kawaguchi, miura et al

_tunic_ 04.16.2018 09:01 AM

Flying Horseman tonight. Ticket price is only three euros. Three Euros to see the best motherfucking band of the woooooooooooooooooooooooooorld !!!!

Sometime soon I will be uploading an improvisation session that our band did with him at our space a few years ago. He's really cool and it was a privilege to do that with him on one of his stops through town. He's definitely one of the greats.

Currently barrelling down the highway on a group road trip to Chicago to see White Hills and Ufomammut tomorrow. Having seen them each once before, I know seeing them both on one bill will be well worth the mileage. Very excited.

ilduclo 05.29.2018 07:14 AM

Michael Gira acoustic

noisereductions 06.16.2018 10:35 PM

So my wife suggested for our anniversary weekend we go see the Foo Fighters and Dinosaur Jr. I think I married well.

Drjohnrock 06.16.2018 11:00 PM

Hoping to get to at least one day of the two day Cropped Out Festival in Louisville, which is on October 5 and 6. I hate most music festivals but this one is great: well organized, not too crowded, and a lot of acts (not all rock) that don't seem to tour that often, or around where I live at least. This year's big names ("Bog" being a relative term here) are Half Japanese, Anthony Braxton and Michael Hurley.

......I’m at the Pavilion now and it’s freaking 98’
There are several other bands on the list, but I don’t know a thing about them. Tonight will be my 5th time seeing Willie :D

Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians
Sturgill Simpson
Willie Nelson

Savage Clone 07.07.2018 03:16 PM

Yob/Bell Witch/Former Worlds, this coming Tuesday.

Yob might be one of the best bands to ever live, and this will be my third time seeing them. Third for Bell Witch also, who are most impressive live.
So glad Mike lived to record and tour!!!

_tunic_ 07.26.2018 01:49 AM

Helmet is visiting my hometown this monday, in a relatively small venue (550 max) where I've actually never been to since it's been rebuilt because it's mainly loud metal and R&B/rap music that's played there.

So I'll probably go if it isn't still so fucking hot as now
