15 only? that is cake! don't be so nervous, you will only scare yourself. be an optimist.. a presentation is an opportunity for you to communicate and collaborate with a room full of peers/professionals/students who will benefit from your persuasive expertise.. I love to present/teach/lecture it is the most fun i ever have, and I am so terribly shy it is unbelievable, except when it comes to presenting, though I used to be equally afraid of public speaking until I just did enough presentations in college to get over it. Now I am a teacher!

I'll be 32 this year. I am an Interior Designer at a furniture dealership, so I have to do alot of sales and design with my job. I started college when I was 18 and with design it is all about the presentations. All of our homework inviolved making design boards tyhen presenting them to the class and teacher. It was nerve wracking at first, but as I learned more about what I was doing it became easier. Now I just spew it all out without really thinking about it. I think it is something you adapt to over time. I just act like I'm talking to my husband and it's no big deal. When you build it upo in yr head it tends to make you more nervous. I like it.

What do you do? Media or something like that?

_slavo_ 02.18.2010 02:07 AM

Yes, I work in a media agency, we prepare media campaign proposals for our clients and then execute the media buying proces when the client has approved our proposals.
It involves a lot of direct communication with the client. I have no problems talking to them on the phone, even in a very relaxed/non-formal way (which I have found out works much better than being too formal) but face-to-face meetings with the clients have been a big issue for me for quite a time, since I'm naturally quite a shy person. But as I move on forwards and have more experience, I see the presentations being less of a problem for me over time. Of course, I have my rituals (a bar of chocolate to calm me down, and a strong coffee to give me a bit of a kick), but I can deal with it now much better than I used to.
which is absolutely fucking GREAT, since I had thought before that battling this kind of social anxiety would be an unsolvable task.

Yeah one day you'll just be spewing out words without even thinkin about it. Strangely I am more nervous about phone calls than meetings face to face. I tend to make shit harder than it really needs to be.

_slavo_ 03.29.2010 01:21 AM

Another one today, this time a very important one. I hope I'll do well.
