Ah yes, it's here already. Valentines Day, a sickening gut-wrenching repulsion of a Hallmark Holiday..

..that 90s cynical reply basically means I am spending the day alone and bitter.

Hip Priest 02.06.2007 06:34 PM

I can understand that people in a loving relationship think that Valentines Day is unneccasary, and that couples should show love and kindness to each other every day. But many couples don't (see domestic abuse and divorce rates for details), and if Valentines Day causes a few people to think and see how much better things could be if only they were a bit nicer to each other then that's a good thing.

Same for me. It's like, see how old you are + don't have boyfriend...
I know it's just commercial but this year I'm upset about it.

I'll be cooking dinner for my girlfriend and taking her to see "that lame Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore movie".

See, being in a relationship isn't all fun and games. When sonicl isn't chained to the stove he's being forced to watch Hugh Grant films. At least that's how I interpreted the above response.

jon boy 02.07.2007 05:58 AM

he enjoys it really.

you can send it to me by post, screamingskull, and I'm gonna send you something in return, just to cheer you up a bit. PM me if you're interested.

:)

jon boy 02.07.2007 06:14 AM

feel the same. luckily for me my girlfriend is moving back to japan the day before valentines.

jon boy 02.07.2007 06:24 AM

well that will save on some money then will it?

sonicl 02.07.2007 06:25 AM

I'm not all that fussed about Valentines Day for my own sake, but Jane is a hopelessly soppy romantic, and would be very upset if I let the day go by unnoticed.

Being chained to the stove is a daily occurrence for me, by the way, but in return for me doing all the cooking, Jane does all the washing and ironing. It's a mutually satisfactory arrangement. I suppose that if I was a really good boyfriend I'd get up early on Valentines Day and do the ironing.

_slavo_ 02.07.2007 06:34 AM

well, then do it.

sonicl 02.07.2007 06:37 AM

Oh God, no. I think not.

I'll make do with being an averagely good boyfriend :)

Iain 02.07.2007 07:33 AM

Well, if it gets you out of the ironing it's probably worth it. Ironing is an unsatisfactory, largely pointless and detestable chore. I've probably done it less that 10 times in my life as anyone who has ever met me can probably tell. Cooking, on the other hand, has the potential to be immensely satisfying and theres something special and unique about the smug feeling you get when people eat something you've made and genuinely go "mmmmmmmmmm" or some such food related sound of appreciation.

Funny, I was thinking about buying myself a nice coat/jacket thing. Not a nice expensive one though, a nice cheap one. Maybe one of those short check ones with black across the shoulders and upper back which give you the look of a slightly trendy bin man.

davenotdead 02.07.2007 07:53 AM

what is this ironing? sounds brutal!

and for the record: listening to Panda Bear's Person Pitch>99.98 % of all female persons.

That's the good way, I guess.
Being a perfect boyfriend makes the life a lot shorter.

sonicl 02.07.2007 09:01 AM

Perfection is a tough to have to try to maintain as well. It's far better to keep her standards fairly low. ;)

ah, sorry to hear about that. I hate break-ups on valentines day, so I'm breaking up with my girlfriend before then so I don't end up doing something I'll feel guilty about. She lives 2 hours away from me and I just find it too difficult.

I'd much rather be with someone that I have a lot of things in common with, and be settled.
