new guilty listening pleasure: YES

dudes, somehow i now like the bubble-lettered 70's classical/prog/falsetto prog act. also early king crimson. dudes are awesome/ridiculous. i find myself wanting them to show up on Metalocalypse as a rival "good" band with a bubbley spaceship doing good deeds and bringing joy, and having strained relationship w/ the inhabitants of Mordhouse.

Yes at their peak (The Yes Album, Fragile, and Close to the Edge) are pretty good. I used to love 'em, but Jon Anderson's vocals and lyrics really throw me off. Not my thing anymore.

Sweetness and Heart of the Sunrise are some standout tracks among others. I haven't got into a lot of their stuff, though.

atsonicpark 05.04.2009 10:33 PM

Why is it a guilty pleasure? Close to the Edge is one of the best albums of all time/.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to atsonicpark again.

I agree w/ atsonicpark. Just the intro alone is the best ever.

I actually prefer the first two albums before Howe joined, and The Yes Album is my favorite with Howe. Those three I still like.

Close to the Edge pulls some serious personal nostalgia strings as well, but then I don't really want to remember being sixteen...

I've said this once and I'll say it many more times, anyone who feels guilty for liking something they enjoy is a fucking idiot. What, it makes you look "uncool" or something? I admit that I like the Backstreet Boys. So what, you know? Music is music.

PAULYBEE2656 05.05.2009 06:59 AM

no .

StevOK 05.05.2009 09:41 AM

I've been listening to Emerson, Lake & Palmer quite a bit lately. I hate bands like Rush. Based on these two statements, do you believe that I might like YES? I don't think I've ever heard anything by YES.

SuperCreep 05.05.2009 10:08 AM

Yes are nowhere near as wanky as ELP. They have a much better sense of song structure and melody.

As far as hating Rush and worrying you won't like Yes either, I guess you can say A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres borrow a little from Close to the Edge, but that's where the similarities end.

Listen to Fragile or Close to the Edge anyway.

batreleaser 05.05.2009 10:18 AM

i dont hate them.

tesla69 05.05.2009 10:23 AM

great tripping music on headphones, the 3 dimensional sound on Going For the One or Wurm is really amazing. On drugs. So I'm told.

noisereductions 05.05.2009 10:40 AM

I'm not really sure how you could feel guilty enjoying anything involving Rick Wakeman. But whatever.

Besides that. Get over yr guilt. The dudes at Pitchfork are never gonna come to yr house and laugh at yr collection. And if anyone here has a problem with what you like, then they're a loser.

I listen to Lindsay Lohan. What?

alex_could 05.05.2009 12:00 PM

I remember that enjoyed Fragile much, also The Yes Album. Was anybody else but me reminded of Perry Farrell while listening to Jon Anderson's singing? :D

And Crimso is the only prog-rock band that I still love.

Rob Instigator 05.05.2009 12:40 PM

stick YES up Christina Aguilera's ass

noisereductions 05.05.2009 12:41 PM

I like Xtina also.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 05.05.2009 01:27 PM

Yeah me too.

Dead-Air 05.05.2009 09:38 PM

I like her even more after that picture.

Everybody heard the Genie in a Bottle/Dirty Boots mash-up?

pbradley 05.05.2009 10:34 PM

I like early King Crimson much more than Yes.
