superb record |
Got up and went and bought it on CD and Vinyl this morning. I already have all the songs bootlegged off of the internet, but they are cleaner on this CD and they have been given different names for some reason??? Like 'Sticks & Stones' is now called 'Looking over my shoulder'. It was worth buying a million times over just for a rare really early version of 'From a poison well' which is called 'First Timer' on the New Moon CD, it is so beautiful, even more so than the version he recorded later with different lyrics. Another highlight is "Seen how things are hard" a live version has only ever been available over the internet. There are some pictures of Elliott taken in portland, and one of him as a little boy which is really cute. Rebecca Gates, Sam Coomes, Christopher O'Riley, and Sean Croghan write little messages about Elliott, and Larry Crane who is has all the power over the estate of Steven Paul Smith (Elliott) writes a message too. It's nice, not as well put together or interesting as 'From A Basement On The Hill" but thats probably because i have heard al these songs a million times before. Rest In Peace Elliott Smith. |

I haven't given it a major listen yet but I like it so far. Muscular jazz interpretations of various songs, Louie, Louie and The Witch being particularly forthright. |
I understand the liner notes were written by Mr Thurston Moore. It sounds quite cool and is on a sweet label.
I'm listening to disc 2 of Sails, my favourite Loren Connors moment |
"It Will Be New Miminokoto" by Koji Shimura and Junzo Suzuki, which Shimura kindly laid on me last night.
Excellent thus far! Two of these tunes were written by the late Jutoku Kaneko, and I find them to be a beautiful tribute. Highly recommended! If anyone sees any of the Acid Mothers Temple shows on this tour, you can pick this up from him (he plays drums with them). |
