Recommend me some NNCK. I'm becoming totally obsessed.

I've only really heard the Myspace stuff and it's starting to drive me insane with wanting to hear more.

Letters from the Earth is my favorite, but Sticks and Stones is a fine place to start. It's definitely one of their most accessible records.
The collaboration with Embryo (Embryonnck) is another favorite.

i just got "sticks and stones..." and it's amazing.

Iain 03.21.2007 08:17 PM

Indeed. Intonomancy is another fantastic one. I think that may be my favourite. It changes between that and Sticks and Stones.

On a slightly unrelated note, I saw, and almost bought, a copy of the Angkor Wat lp today which was a band Dave Nuss was in before NNCK. I had a listen to it and it was not my cup of tea. It was on Roadrunner to give you an idea of what it sounded like.

I think I may be the only sonic board member who doesn't really care for these guys... or atleast the songs on their myspace page anyway.

jon boy 03.22.2007 07:02 AM

sticks and stones was the first i heard and just the packaging alone, wooden and glass box was enough to make me think that they where going to be pretty amazing. the music confirmed it.

Yeah, the songs on their myspace are the only songs I have heard.
And yeah, I guess the 'boards worshipping' of them has something to do with it. Not because people love them here and that's why I don't really care for them, but more that I expected more, my expectations were pretty high for the band. When I heard them three songs, I was like "Is this it? Is that all?". There didn't seem to be a great deal of craft involved. But I am quite willing to be proven wrong if I heard more material. I'm sure their live show would be interesting.

Iain 03.22.2007 07:29 PM

I don't know that there is a 'board worshipping' of them. I think there's just a small but vociferous group (myself included) that go on about them all the time until everyone else is bored. I don't know if the stuff on their myspace is the best to judge them by. And if you aren't really into stuff that is at times sprawling and seemingly chaotic then you may not dig them. But I think there is a lot of craft in what they do for sure. If you listen to the early stuff and the recent stuff you can see the development and seeing them live you can see the amazing synergy between them.

i think they probably only appeal to a particular faction of SY fans though, and it's probably not the faction that is in awe of underground rock circa 86 to 92, if you know what i mean.

That's true and, as a fan of that period as well as being a bit of an unreconstructed one chord punk throwback, I thought I'd dislike them. But it's their organic looseness that I really seem yto connect with, a looseness that I still feel marks the best of bands like SY, Royal Trux and Can.

Norma J 03.23.2007 12:20 AM

It's got nothing to do with the style of music. I enjoy non-conventional music and song structures etc.

yet no rep?

What did it for me was watching a clip of them playing live. There was a moment where it suddenly all fell into place and it cracked my ears open (still paying for it). I'd so love to see them live. Does anyone have any updates on a forthcoming tour?
