^I love I want some by make up. Great album.

Right now I'm listening to Keijo & the free players - after at once. I googled for Keijo Virtanen, who is behind Keijo, and found out, that the rector of the university in Turku, Finland, has the same name. How interesting!

Further to that, I've settled on some kind of middle-eastern folk music. Nice percussion and a wailing lady.

I like Avatar but its much more clean than previous albums as you've probably heard. A friend of mine doesn't like it very much as it reminds him of his long haired, open shirt wearing uncle. Its psychedelic still but it's like they wanted to show off their songwriting ability or something. I'm glad I bought it.

TheDom 10.04.2006 08:51 PM

Yeah, on Avatar they ditched the vocal echo-freakout thing.

In my opinion, it is a step down for them. They were on top of the world with those first 3 LPs and it is pretty fucking hard to beat a record as good as Field Recordings From The Sun.

Still, give it a chance. It is a much cleaner version of Blue Cathedral, without all the organs and strings and shit. Shoulda-been classic rock anthems.

Everyneurotic 10.04.2006 09:06 PM

i thought of it more like a transition record, like if for their next record they can combine the songwriting skills they developed for avatar (which i think are undeniable) with their more out-there sound of past recordings, they can really take them to the next level.

TheDom 10.04.2006 09:11 PM

Good point. It proves that COF aren't going to keep doing the same thing over and over again, which is pretty refreshing.

to keep on the topic of the thread I'm listenin to motherfuckin' Polvo - Today's Active Lifestyles

too fucking good.

k-krack 10.04.2006 09:15 PM

I'm listening to nothing at this very moment, aside from the speaker statik.

Norma J 10.05.2006 01:12 AM

I do believe you like Hole? And on top of that, they're your favourite band.

Therefore, Cantankerous, your apology has been accepted and your comment disregarded.

a cover of "nick the stripper" by some band called ssion i'd never heard of. i hate the music but the vocals are great. they do the monologue from kool thing in the middle. i'd like to take the vocals from this and put it over the original music.

Give them a go pookie.I've become a fan of theirs since seeing them live and the cd in question is live too.

Everyneurotic 10.05.2006 03:43 PM

i agree, ashtray navigations are icy chill

porkmarras 10.05.2006 03:45 PM

I scared my neighbours to death!hehe

Pookie 10.05.2006 03:53 PM

I used to buy a lot of stuff from Phil Todd many years ago (can't remember what his distro was called), but I only ever bought one Ashtray tape (Find A Magic Lantern In The Woods) which is great stuff.

It's taken me about 10 years to buy another. I got a CD called Fast Angels Vol. 1. You've prompted me to give it a proper listen.

I think they're brilliant. Don't know them that long either, but I'm very impressed. I've still got many albums to discover by these guys.
