I listened to EJS... for the first time recently. I didn't like it much... Probably my least favourite out of all the albums I've listened to. It's an alright album, but when it's compared to other SY albums, it's nowhere near as good.

Rob's above post amended for the masses.

how can you say that the rockin tunes on rather ripped are worse than the dull, lifelesss, un-inspired tepid bathwater that is EJST&NS? shiiiit

I'd have to ask you, young man!

atsonicpark 05.06.2008 09:10 AM

It needs to be said again.

Bull in the Heather is such a fucking masterpiece. Listen to any one part of that song by itself and it doesn't sound right, but listen to the whole thing together and it's unbelievable.

Rob Instigator 05.06.2008 09:54 AM

I can't listen to bull in the heather without picturing my "bull" in kim deal's or kim gordon's "heather"

uhler 05.06.2008 11:11 AM

i think it's their best 90's record. even better than a thousand leaves.

Rob Instigator 05.06.2008 11:15 AM

between EJST&NS, Goo, Dirty, A Thousand Leaves, washing machine, goodbye 20th century, made in the USA, I would definitely put EJST&NS as dead fucking last in their 90's output.

batreleaser 05.06.2008 11:44 AM

this has always been one of the few youth ablums i dont like and never listen too, along with goo, dirty, and rather ripped.

fugazifan 05.06.2008 11:51 AM

ןout of their 90's output id either put goo or dirty as #1 then either washing machine or ATL, then this (not including SYR, and i dont know NYCGAF that well

and the instrumental part where theu play really fast on chapel hill was so mindblowing to me.

get out of my head and stop stealing my thoughts and experience!

Experimental jet set is my least favorite album by SY along with Dirty which has good parts here and there (I totally agree^, that part on Chapel Hill is practically the only reason i listen to Dirty) but the album altogether still kinda blows.

They are good but im just not feeling them at all most of the time.

I prefer this album. It has Androgynous Mind. One of my favorite songs ever.

i thought made in the usa came out in 88 or 89. i don't know if i count goodbye 20th century as an official release. if so then i think that would be their best of the 90's. i think i may like ejst&ns the best because the first sonic youth song i heard came off the album and it was one of the first i bought. i would listen to it over and over again in middle and high school. just like black flag, it got me through some tough times when i was an awkward skater teenager with no friends.

i still think dirty is the worst album, but that's not saying it's a bad album. it's actually quite good, but it's a bad sonic youth album. same with goo and rather ripped. not bad albums, just bad sonic youth albums.

I think it might have been recorded in 86, or around then. The CD was released in the 90's.

Psychic Hearts does blow. I like Trees Outside the Academy though

Ahhhh the album that got me into Sonic Youth.

Not even joking... BMG music club baby! doesn't get any more punk.

acousticrock87 01.29.2009 12:05 AM

EJTNS has always been one of my favorites. Sometimes NYC or DDN pass it up, but I still love it.

However, it must be said that my reasons are as much nostalgia as they are actual reasons. I have far more memories connected to this album than almost any other album period, SY or not.

joe11121 01.29.2009 12:10 AM

I like the album, some trash on it, but all in all it's pretty good.
