Sister Purple Vinyl Issue

Hi, i do not usually post on here but i have a quick question on the Sister LP. Was there ever a pre-2011 issue with a purple vinyl ? I am being told there is, but i cannot find its reference anywhere. It pretends to be a SST issue. If anyone can help ! Many thanks

I know a guy with a grey colored SST copy of EVOL. It reminds me of this one but I'm not sure if either are "official" releases.

Itīs very odd not Chris pages or Discogs doesnīt mention anything about purple SST-version (There are also in Chris pages mentioned only org music-version from 2011). Are you sure this isnīt boot? If not, I think you should made it pages in Discogs.

Yeah, just also noticed it from discogs. Didnīt find it at first because there are no release year and itīs almost end of the list of all releases. Anyway I ordered my copy in 1992 or 93 as a new (itīs censored version, but has Disney) and then I havenīt got any information about purple version. So I think itīs later than 1992.

Something makes me think that the smoke grey EVOL and purple Sister are knockoff pressings done by SSt from after Sonic Youth left SST. But that could be totally wrong too.

for me locked groove is most important thing about evol vinyl release. I don't have a vinyl version yet, but if I will be getting one it would definitely have to be the one with locked groove, there are also pressing without it yeah?

Mortte Jousimo 06.03.2015 12:41 AM

I believe it is all the SST & Blast First eighties versions. I ordered Blast First version in 1993 and it has it. Do I remember right, but are there new vinyl versions of EVOL where is Bubblegum added after Expressway?

Ups. I don't know how come I've started on with Evol in Sister related thread. Sorry.

Yeah I wonder myself about Buble Gum addition after sst / blast first releases if yes or no. Never checked that on sy discography page actually.

I made an little investigation about EVOL-versions in Discogs (there are much more different versions of all SY-albums than in SY discography pages). It seems any vinyl havenīt got Bubblegum. Well, I didnīt look the bootie versions that are quite many also. Most of re-releases also have locked groove, I find these that donīt have: Recordvox Germany version, Blast First Greece-version, Geffen Europe-version and AuGoGo version from Australia from the year 1988. Of course itīs always possible some re-releases donīt have it even Discogs say so (if somebody has just copied all the texts from the earlier versions in Discogs). Whatīs interesting there is no mention of the smoke-grey SST-EVOL, instead there are Pink-vinyl SST from the year 1990.

thanks for the update. so no bubble gum on any proper release then. even difficult then. i will try to memorize the ones you mentioned doesn't have locked groove.

Purple Sister and Pink EVOL are official SST pressings. I bought my Purple Sister from a guy that worked at SST. Smoke-gray and Clear EVOL pressings are boots. Still hunting that elusive Pink EVOL!

The pink Evol & purple Sister are c1990 and there's around 500 of each. I asked Chuck Dukowski about them when he was selling a bunch of rare SST stuff a few years ago.

radarmaker 06.07.2015 06:43 AM

And aside from the pink SST & pink ORG pressings, all other coloured Evols are bootlegs. AFAIK they all purport to be on Blast First rather than SST though.

Thanks for clearing this up...now I wonder if these were done w/ the consent of SY or as a cash grab by SST.

radarmaker 06.07.2015 02:52 PM

It's an interesting question - I suspect it was either these or the various coloured 10" Starpowers (c1991) that prompted legal action to recover their masters from SST.
