charles eugene 09.18.2007 04:25 PM

this shopping center kinda on the outskirts of ocean city, a store called "sound oddysey"

charles eugene 09.18.2007 04:26 PM

where in maryland are u from? im from dundalk myself

kelj 09.18.2007 10:01 PM

the songs are fucking great
but, hey it's thurston so you know the album was going to be amazing
the addition of violin adds a fresh feel to thurston's work

now i'm going to sound like a jerk ,i know but,
John Agnello ,i'm sorry kills this recording
the fucking direct recording of the guitars just ruins it for me
just like on Rather Ripped, there is no tone to the guitars and Steve's drums are too thin
he fucked up the Jawbox album too

i can get a better tone from just one mic on the cone and one from behind the amp
i guess the idea for a quicker set up is to record direct but, FUCK how long does it take to set up 2 mics to an amp

sorry
the tunes are great
the sound sucks

akesin 09.18.2007 10:10 PM

incorrect

kelj 09.18.2007 10:27 PM

what's incorrect ?

nico99 09.19.2007 01:08 AM

Kejl, it's a matter of taste. A few of us think that Rather Ripped, Beyond and TBTA is the best fucikng guitar sound thats been recorded since the eighties. If you don't, fine, but my guess is that they didn't record them the way they did to save time. My eyes can't tell me if it was a direct recording or not, but they do tell me the sound is great, according to me.

The guitars were not recorded direct into the board - they were played through a few different sweet amps that were mic'd.

picked a copy up yesterday, it's great..one of the best records this year.
i prefer it to "rather ripped", honestly.

k-krack 09.19.2007 06:32 PM

I went into the store on the 17 to see if he had it (I'd seen a few sites saying it was released on the 17... other sites said 18)... nope. I went again (yesterday, the 18), and as soon as I got in, he said that "Oh, their site must say the wrong day, it's not out until October 2." BULL FUCKING SHIT! FUCK, THEY'D BETTER HAVE IT WHEN I GO TO TORONTO ON FRIDAY!

whorefrost 09.20.2007 06:33 AM

Totally excellent. Growing on me rapidly after a few listens. Copying it to my mp3 player for some delightful autumnal strolls..

Apologies if this has been posted already... I got this from Ecstatic Peace today.... great news about TOTA vinyl!!!

Thanks to everyone for their support of this "flagship" release for Ecstatic Peace. Press and feedback has been gushing in over the past few weeks and we figured it was time to share. Also, Thurston has an amazing band together for dates on both coasts in September and October and then a little European jaunt in December around ATP. Don't be a stranger!

Vinyl
YES!!!!!! we will have vinyl for Trees Outside of The Academy! Our UK distro partners Cargo are cooking up an amazing PICTURE DISK with some new art and an additional track. It will be available on our website and as an import from Cargo. We're rushing production to have it ready for the East Coast tour dates.

Radio
Moves from #36 to #17 CMJ Top 200 (2nd Week)
Moves from #166 to #69 CMJ Indie Radio Select (1st Week, Debut!)
#18 CMJ AAA (1st Week, Debut!)

Breakdown from the good folks at TERRORBIRD: "Thurston has a GREAT week out with plenty of new station pick ups, which not only help the record pick up in overall tracked airplay, but also move into the overall Top 20 in Week 3 at a new peak of #17!"

Can't wait for the vinyl and hopefully more shows in the UK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to come here and give my review of thurston's new CD!! I love it! I have been listening pretty much non stop since I got it! :) I dont think it's quite as good as psychic hearts but it seems like I love it more and more every time I listen to it. They are really different though so it is hard to compare them.

I especially love the combining of acoustic and electric on some of the songs. Its sounds so good. I also love the violin.

I love all the pictures of thurston in the cd booklet, especially the younger ones, and the one of him and kim. I didnt see anywhere in the booklet where it mentions the other musicians that recorded on the album. Am I blind? Or did he not include it? I figured it was steve drumming...but the rest I'm not sure..

I am very excited to see Thurston's solo show!! :) Gonna be SOOOOOOO good!!

later!!

pantophobia 09.21.2007 09:34 AM

the credits are on the forth page of the booklet

SynthethicalY 09.21.2007 09:47 AM

I just wanted to say, is that I got tickets to see Thurston on Oct 30. Hell yeah.
