Youth of Today

You know them?
A band.
From NY.

_slavo_ 01.25.2008 10:54 AM

NYHC, isn't it?

gualbert 01.25.2008 11:02 AM

Yeah , straight edge ( hem! ).

Everyneurotic 01.25.2008 11:44 AM

gorilla biscuits were the best out of all the youth crew bands.

yeah youth of today were actually rich kids from conn. who claimed they were nyhc. they were great though. break down the walls is such a good album and song. they were the first 88 hardcore band to talk and sing about vegetarianism. in that scene, everybody went vegetarian at least for a bit after they released their pro vegetarian song no more. anyway i'm glad someone started a thread about them.

Everyneurotic 01.25.2008 06:10 PM

ray cappo founded revelation records, didn't he?

it's weird that yot and gb are the only two youth crew bands that are known of or were properly documented. i've liked what i've heard of krakdown, for example.

gualbert 01.25.2008 07:25 PM

It's because they're the best ones , probably.
I like Sick of it all and Side by Side , also.

Everyneurotic 01.25.2008 07:29 PM

i never saw the appeal of sick of it all.

uhler 01.26.2008 12:17 AM

yeah sick of it all sucked i thought. side by side and bold were also amazing. can't forget judge either.

yeah he and some guy named jordan founded revelation records. after awhile i think it just became jordan's label while ray was doing other things like being a krishna. he founded equal vision records as a krishna label. funny how the label later released converge and saves the day records.

another great youth crew band even though they were from california is chain of strength. actually every early revelation records release is good except for the warzone and sick of it all releases. the first gorilla biscuits 7 inch is probably my favorite 7 inch of all time.

i forgot to mention that if you like youth of today, you'll probably like project x. it was a band started by porcell (guitarist of youth of today). they might be a little too straight edge for people (they have a song called straight edge revenge) but they are great nonetheless.

also, judge's record chung king can suck it (which is actually their first album bringin' it down) is officially the most sought out record in hardcore. i just found out it sold for over 2500 dollars on ebay.

...

hahaha funny you bring this up, i bought that book that compiles that one other guy from project x's and porcell's fanzine, schism. a very good read, porcell could be a mindless nazi and then flip the switch and deliver an awesome bold and to the point review.

uhler 02.06.2008 01:08 AM

that'll be the next book i purchase.

here's their music video if anyone is interested: http://youtube.com/watch?v=nFUqrzCZOuo

mtv never played it though.

Youth Of Today - London, S.O.A.S. 1989.3.31 (SBD(X)) by weldermatt

I used to always try to get Ray and his friend Warren to come up to New Hampshire to play with their band the Violent Children in the mid 80's. I used to have a housemate she was banging Ray, he wasn't celibate. I traded her my Beastie Boys Cookie Puss 12" for a 1st pressing of Can't Close My Eyes which I later sold at Epicenter while broke and then I went across the street to El Toro and had a veggie taco.

Everyneurotic 02.06.2008 08:51 PM

i'm still out of step with the world.

Decayed Rhapsody 03.10.2010 11:58 PM

Just feel like sharing that I met their drummer (and sometime Black Flag drummer) Tommy Carroll in a bar randomly last night after his friend started hitting on my friend. Nicest, most humble guy.

It's pretty tragic when middle class frat boys pretend to come from a rough neighbourhood somewhere else in the hope of gaining a bit of street cred.
