On the subject of non sonic sounds this band are one of my favourite non sonic sounds...
..And You Will Know Us By the Trail Of Dead, like sonic youth they have a great comunity of fans who are real friendly like the sonic heads i have met they act like your best friends at gigs etc.

I followed them round the uk tour this gone month at three venues and they were amazing! anyone heard them? if no then you should check out Madonna and Source Tags and Codes albums.

amazing band. good people.

i fear for their next album though...

Trasher02 02.26.2007 02:59 PM

Never really got into them.
I like a couple songs but certainly not them all.
Maybe you guys could recommend me something?

I do love trail of dead, been a massive fan for about 5 years. Ive gone off every band i liked 5 years ago except them.

Go for Source Tags and Codes or Madonna as the starting point.
the first album has good songs but its production is a bit budget
Madonna is very angsty, is much better produced and sounds very good loud
Source Tags and codes is their most complete album, much improved songwriting and its the album youd most likely enjoy as a starting point. I also love the lyrics on this album
Worlds apart is similar to Source Tags but they experiment a little, it looks like a Mars Volta album but it doesnt sound like one. It was criminally underrated, i think its as good as theyve done
So Divided has many good songs but its let down by a few mediocre ones that should have been cut short. I dont think it hangs together as well as the other ones but i still enjoy it. Not a good starting point id say.

All the ToD I ever bought is the Relative Ways ep.

No Star 02.26.2007 05:14 PM

yeah good advice, i would start with source tags and then work back, eventually getting the new record, that way you will appreciate the change from jason reeses anarchic art punk approach and conrads nice melodies and loud quiet basis. class band awesome fanbase! x

I saw them around the time that Madonna came out and they were ace and I liked that record and the first one. I totally lost interest when Sources.. came out, I thought it was pretty lame to be honest. I've since heard one or two songs from albums since then and they were dreadful.

I downloaded Madonna and STaC, and that newer one (forget the name, really bad) and couldn't listen to any of them all the way through. I tried skipping around, but that didn't do it for me either. Maybe I should try Madonna again.

I think I've listened to the Relative Ways ep 3 or 4 times total, and it isn't bad....pretty good musical leanings and range on that one.

I dig their first coule of cds. Don't like the new stuff.

EyeballGrowth 02.26.2007 08:09 PM

They're okay. Decent band with a dumb name if you ask me. They're one of those bands that I can't make up my mind if i like them or not

I would, pretty good album. If you can't push yourself to hear the whole thing again, try playing the song A Perfect Teenhood. If that one doesn't do it for you, you probably just aren't a fan..

i really like mistakes and regrets. mostly the intro though.

the ikara cult 02.26.2007 09:07 PM

To be honest, if Madonna as a whole doesnt do it for you then you probably wont get anywhere with them. But Madonna is a great album and is worth more than a couple of listens, i love the frantic energy it has, every song sounds like its going to implode at any second (and a few of them do)

My wife was actually in this band in Austin, for like three shows. Conrad was her boyfriend for several years. I went to school with him at Evergreen. He's a really nice guy. The band is alright. A bit overpolished for my tastes on record, but I like seeing them live, especially when Jason sings. He goes so nuts in an old school punkish way, it's fun to watch.
