Lee Ranaldo:
"Some of it seems to be an extension of the last couple of records, but some hearkens forward into territory and also back to earlier, more dissonant and atonal stuff we've done. There's definitely some rocking songs and also some sound piece-y kind of things that are pretty interesting as well."

contribute more facts if you have them... maybe there's something i dont know so i can update this post

Supposedly to be relased on 6/6/06, other sources confirm a 6/13/06 release date, in either case it will probably be an early June release date.

12. Or (Sung by Thurston)

Sorry to bring speculation into yr thread, but the thread about The Residents reminded me - wasn't there a 'Rather Ripped' record shop somewhere in California? Berkeley, maybe? Has that got anything to do with the name?

I want to know track timings most now.

From somewhere on the internet: "30 years ago Rather Ripped Records was THE music store in Berkeley. It was operated by people who knew music and loved educating people and turning them on to new artists. The profit motive was secondary."

the "friends" song is i think sleepin around or whatever song was on the summer vid and the live vid with no lee. its got the same rhythm as the friends song but stays on that same chord instead of the friends song which changes back and forth. yeah i dont really like that song too much. i hope the rest of the tunes sound better.

Where did you get the info on who sings what?

edit: nevermind, saw the other thread.

i picked this up from rollingstone.com

"What was that band -- the Rembrandts? We're inspired by that!" says Moore with a laugh. This according to his daughter with singer/bassist Kim Gordon, Coco, when she first heard their new song "What a Waste." "Our eleven-year-old said, 'Hey! That's the theme song from Friends!'" he confesses. "And we're like, 'Oh, yeah!' So we're inspired by that -- and [the short-lived NBC comedy series] Freaks and Geeks, which is totally awesome and also early, thrash-era Go-Go's."

The song, 'Reena' is almost certainly a reference to the fictional artist/dealer Reena Spaulings.

RIPfrey05 04.04.2006 09:55 PM

uhhh....he left
they all went to red lobster and jim threw his lobster in lee's lap cause they had been arguing about global warming. then lee threatened to quit if they didnt get rid of jim, they were like "no" so lee resorted to holding his breath until he got his way or died/ passed out.
it was retarded
now jims gone..but its all good.. SY always in my mind will be LEE KIM THURSTON and STEVE

thanks Soundtrax for the informative thread.

Thurston is such a joker. However, "The Red & The Black" that they regularly performed as the encore's closer when fIREHOSE were on tour with them is a Blue Oyster Cult cover. The Minutemen had covered it previously, so I guess that is a vague BOC correlation.
