TV being heavily censored in the past 2 years?

This is just something that's been really confusing me. Maybe a few people know what I'm talking about. It's specific things really that I notice. Saturday night live reruns are one thing I've noticed, they've started censoring words like cooch and wang, bleeping them right out on television. And Aquateen Hungerforce has had whole phrases removed from the original show and replaced with other ones. Faggoty elves was replaced with " Sweet little elves ". This is different than those movie channels that show movies and overdub the swears with different words. Both of these shows are on networks that used to air them uncensored, and suddenly changed about 2 years back. Weird, it almost makes me question my own memory like, wait, am I crazy or did they used to say something different?

I guess maybe I'm the only one who notices these things, but I bet there's people out there that if I mentioned it to them they'd be like YEAH I noticed that too, what the hell? It goes way beyond those two shows too, I see it all over the place.

I couldn't count the amount of times an American is on an Australian tv show and they nearly say "shit" and they stop and say something like "Sorry I can't say that". HAHA. You can say 'fuck' on television here. Not during the day of course, but we're nowhere near a censored as you guys. You'd think America would be the opposite to that - land of the free and all.

They always censor the swearing in The Simpsons. And that episode where Homer smokes weed is never on anymore.

Land of the free my ass

when you watch Damien marley's WELCOME TO JAMROCK video on MTV they censor the word MURDER. I mean, come on!!!!!

(Out in the streets, they call it murder)
Welcome to jamrock....

here is the youtube version of MTV censoring.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4FK6ykR9Qc

here it is without censoring from BET
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlQn9LbqcMQ

it does not make any sense at all.

Rob Instigator 12.15.2006 01:03 PM

hahahah! I got suspended for wearing an AC-DC HIGHWAY TO HELL sleeveless shirt in 8th grade!!!!

k-krack 12.15.2006 01:31 PM

Damn principals suck. The reason I got suspended: "The younger kids might read it and get a bad impression." BULL-FUCKIN'-SHIT!!! I HAD TO READ IT ALOUD SO THAT THE PRINCIPLES COULD READ IT! HOW WOULD A SIX-YEAR OLD LITTLE SHIT THAT NEEDS SOMEONE TO READ OUT LOUD TO THEM READ SCRATCHY WRITING ON A T-SHIRT, ONLY HALF-EXPOSED BY THE FLANNEL!!!??? Dumb jerks!

Prisstina 12.15.2006 01:35 PM

I was watching Sixteen Candles on TV awhile ago, and they replaced "asswipe" with "pencilneck". YOU'RE RUINING THE MOVIE, FUCKERS!

gmku 12.15.2006 01:37 PM

Little words bleeped on TV?! Are you kidding? This is nothing compared to what's happening with the news we're getting from the networks. People don't realize how much of it is really prepackaged from the government. Network television, for the most part, is government television. You think you're getting the real news on network TV? Try watching something like Democracy Now!, for example, or reading a really good news magazine like The Nation, and you'll start seeing the cracks in the veneer on national news, too.

SynthethicalY 12.15.2006 01:38 PM

T.v is censored? God where the hell I've been.

Rob Instigator 12.15.2006 02:05 PM

NPR democracy Now and other public news programs are all I can stand these days. network news are owned by giant multinational corporations and giant multinational corporations control the USA government through their "purchasing" of our representatives, thereby controlling the news that gets made and the news that gets reported. they control both sides of it.

and obviously TYV censors stuff, but what is the purpose of censoring the word murder in a song by Damien marley? It makes no sense. i know the market age for Mtv is 11 to 13 year olds but what are they trying to do? avoid the mention of murder so the kids grow up not knowing murder exists? it is ridiculous.

I gotta say it's all crock. While htere has to be a balance of good and evil sometimes, being able to say fuck all the time may diminish the extreme nature of the word, but replacing "faggoty little elves" is kind of moot. I'v enoticed some shows, like ATHF, taking stabs at censoring by making episodes that either completey push the limits (with a smirk) or outwardsly address the stupidity of it all in show. One episode of ATHF feature a giant cock monster building a cock spaceship, cockrocket, if you will, and it was replaced by color bars--- i think they may'vr also counted the tiems cock was said (in a south park like fashion)...

krastian 12.16.2006 01:45 AM

Cool they had a live show of them (Bon Bcott era) the other night on this VH1 Classic channel we get over here.....AC/DC were one of the ten or so bands that I really got into when I was a youngin'.

Norma J 12.16.2006 01:49 AM

They released an Acca Dacca dvd of their clips a year or two ago. Good shit. It's cool watching their career over the years.

krastian 12.16.2006 01:50 AM

It's great to see how Angus has been an animal all these years.

Norma J 12.16.2006 01:59 AM

Angus is great. Awesome guitarist and very charismatic.
