Sonic Youth Vs. GZA!!!

just in time for pitchfork, the cats at thehoodinternet.com have put together a really awesome mashup of a track from daydream nation (candle) and a track from beneath the surface (apparently they couldn't find a decent enough one from liquid swords). i really think this is one of their better ones. check it out.

Cool, downloading now.

EDIT: Ha! This is fantastic.

HaydenAsche 07.10.2007 11:56 AM

I like it alot.

Rob Instigator 07.10.2007 01:07 PM

very good stuff.

I like it much better than the Jay Z white album mishmash

atsonicpark 07.10.2007 01:08 PM

wow, i actually dig that.

my friend once did a don caballero rap song. er.. he made a rap song made of don cab samples. it was neat.

i hated that album, but i hate jay-z all around.

Rob Instigator 07.10.2007 01:38 PM

I am glad to hear it. jay Z is an overrated braggart

val-holla-ing 07.10.2007 01:55 PM

he's probably the laziest rapper i've ever heard.

syntax-free 07.11.2007 11:10 PM

i've never actually heard of GZA but i'm going to see sonic.

val-holla-ing 07.11.2007 11:42 PM

gza's a member of the wu-tang clan. if you don't know who they are, there's no hope.

val-holla-ing 07.11.2007 11:48 PM

i would've never figured you for a jay-z fan.

Bollocks_to_Pop 07.12.2007 01:23 AM

I know this isn't SY related exactly but I found this mash of Imagine and Walk on the Wild Side that's awesome and thought I'd share.

i dunno.

im cliche

my fav. hip hop stuff is typical shit white folks say...tribe, public enemy, mos def, OLD SCHOOL low rider snoop n' dre shit.

basically stuff my babysitters were prolly into when i was a kid.

it's cool. i like that shit, too. the reason i don't like jay-z is because he doesn't take any time to write his lyrics, so there's no substance. and it's not like other commercial rap, where at least the beats appeal to me, so i generally skip anything with his name on it.

atsonicpark 07.12.2007 03:26 AM

there used to be this website, it might still be around, but it did mash ups of earache artists (you all know earache, RIGHT?) and popular rap songs, it was cool..

Rob Instigator 07.12.2007 09:10 AM

I loved Earache artist GODFLESH and their album STREETCLEANER

Cool link, val-holla-ing. I like how GZA's back-up singer's refrain is about how difficult it is to maintain willpower and it's aptly juxtaposed with the music of "Candle."

Also, thanks to Bollocks_to_Pop for the link. There's a good one with "Walk on the Wild Side" and Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner" too, but I like pairing with "Imagine" best.

There are a few mashes of Nirvana SLTS out there but this one is the most entertaining (although the solo seems completely out of place). There's no "A Stoke of Genius" here. The MJ is stretching it a bit as is all the Eminem, but...(trails off)
...some of these I had already from various sites (I've been collecting good ones for awhile for a comp), some are from thehoodinternet (tracks 6-11) and some from puritanblog.
