blog by a guy who needs to know what old songs are

This blog just started and the first song he posted is already awesome (but I have no idea who it is):
http://therandomtapes.blogspot.com/

This guy (with an excellent taste in music, by the way; I've known Cory for years) recorded tons of tapes of songs he liked from his old college radio station and is posting them on the internet to try to figure out what songs they are. He needs your help!...

This is annoying, because I'm sure I've heard this song before - possibly on the Steve Lamacq show - but I can't bring the band's name to mind.

atsonicpark 09.16.2009 04:51 AM

Yeah I'd really like to know what the song is.

A few years ago he sent me a whole bunch of these old songs and I helped him figure out a few (if I remember correctly, one was Mount Shasta, one was Shakuhachi Surprise, and one was Swirlies).

totally intriguing. I don't know the tune but I'll be checking in....

I have heard the song several time sbut have no idea who it is

He just posted an AWESOME fucking song...

good luck figuring out who did it. It's definitely some early amrep noise rock band or something.

alteredcourse 09.22.2009 12:31 AM

Hahahah, this is so fucking awesome. I start snorting laughter whenever the guys "laughs" on the most recent song. I cant help it.

atsonicpark 09.22.2009 12:42 AM

Wish I knew what it was!

Glice 09.22.2009 05:02 AM

God, bands in the late-90s who sounded like Jesus Lizard - that's going to be a fucker.

atsonicpark 09.22.2009 05:07 AM

haha.

It ended up being YONA KIT. I have heard (and loved!) that album before, guess it just didn't register... sure sounded familar though..

He posted 2 new songs, I emailed him personally and told him the 2nd one was THINKING FELLERS UNION LOCAL # 282.. dunno the first one, though, it's some shoegaze song you guys probably know.

narlus 10.02.2009 08:16 AM

yeah i just commented on the 2nd song.

#27 is a song by the Boo Radleys from the album "Giant Steps"... I recognised immediately the song but it took me some time to figure it out...

edit: after research, it turns out the song is called "Rodney King (Song for Lenny Bruce)"

The Earl Of Slander 10.03.2009 05:47 PM

Both 27 and 14 are amazing!

I really need to actually buy some TFUL. I put Mother Of All Saints on a list of "albums I need to keep an eye out for" that I made when I first started seriously buying records when I was 15! And yet, oddly, I've just somehow never ended up getting around to it...

"Hurricane" is such a great song. In fact, the whole of Admonishing the Bishops is a great EP.

atsonicpark 04.18.2010 05:41 PM

HOLY FUCK!

Somebody PLEASE know the April 2nd post! I love this song, whatever it is..
