well, that's not entirely true....I had a minor chuckle over the preposterous notion that anybody cared, but quickly moved on to headier subjects such as "is Hollywood starlet such n such really bisexual"?

Orange Crush! I like to youtube this on parties. I have two albums of them: Monster und New Adventures in Hi Fi. Both good records, if you ask me.

If it's true then it sucks. I'm not that big a fan, but you have to respect that bands integrity. That seems rare nowadays to an old curmudgeon like me.

Them sticking around would matter in terms of being role models for other music makers. Then again, any band might need to consider retirement in due time to avoid kicking a dead horse.

I'm ambivalent in other words.

This sucks they were one of the last huge 80's indie institutions that was still active and relevant (Accelerate kicked ass!). They were kind of a beacon showing you could be on a major label but still do things your own way and make great music.

The fact that something this beautiful became a hit speaks volumes.

Big deal. They had stopped being any good nearly 24 years ago.

New Adventures in Hi Fi is a good album to listen to now and again. But most REM albums are too bland to bother with in my opinion.

nah. Their 90's albums were good. Reveal was good.

Its a tragedy, they got progressively more relevant after each album they did
