PAULYBEE2656 12.29.2006 03:25 PM

greenlight 01.04.2007 06:40 AM

i have yet to d/l due to having a stonking cold and general lethargy towards everything but it but its a waiting. cant wait to hear it.

This LP didn't have much impact on me, guess I need to listen again with headphones. Finally tracked down the 4 Guitars CD, that will get played first.

Melbourne Direct is a million times better...

yeah melbourne is fucking excelent.
couldn't find any taste in 4 guitars yet.

whorefrost 01.04.2007 04:38 PM

I'm bummed I slept on Melbourned Direct... I just remember a Lee interview where he said they liked it, they didn't love it... the reason it was a limited edition was that they weren't super-thrilled with it... so I was hesitant to buy it...
now I keep hearing great things about it... fuck...
also missed out on Flipped Out Bride but at least that's arriving on CD shortly

whorefrost 02.06.2007 09:00 AM

Got my CD in the mail this morn.. second spin... absorbing it pateiently.. very soothing..

Rob Instigator 02.06.2007 10:00 AM

Just got the 4 guitars yesterday
Listened to it once in car. sounds great.

I also got Piece for jetsun Dolma, that shit is great

the melbourne direct I have on vinyl but I have not yet listened to the whole thing.

I like the flipped out bride, I find it soothing and beautiful.

atari 2600 02.06.2007 11:05 AM

There are some parts where I like the resonances, there are some parts where I'm diggin' the aktion. Yep, this one sort of musters its way and insinuates itself seductively into being a must have side-project release. At any rate, it's a must listen. Even though it's shorter, I enjoy it more than Melbourne Direct, I can tell you that.

PAULYBEE2656 02.06.2007 01:40 PM

i prefer melbourne direct. flipped out bride is ok, i gave it 2 listens thru but never really stuck out like melbourne, 4 guitars or jetsun but i have to give it another whirl...

actually its in my hand right now, reaching for the play button and...........

Yeah, I need to listen to it again, I suppose. Melbourne Direct just seems like rejected Demonlover material (even though I know it's not) or something.

Flipped Out Bride is definitely a composition piece, and, as such, it's very subtle during much of it.

Thurston Moore - Flipped Out Bride [Blossoming Noise - 2006]

http://www.musiquemachine.com/getdata.php?id=2604Flipped out bride brings together two feedback drenched, noisy and offten cold guitar sculptures from Sonic youths guitarist. I’ll have admit I’ve never been a huge fan Of sonic youths work, but I have quite enjoyed their forays into other project like Text of light.
And this too is an enjoyble enough effort, that finds Moore coaxing some long rich and icy drones from his instrument, as well as cold metallic throbs, muddy strums and high pitch whines. Track one Flipped Out Bride is the longest here at 16 minutes, leaving track two O Sweet Lanolin with just 12 minutes. Flipped Out Bride just judders and circles round and round cold harmonics emitting from it’s core, the tone almost feels like it could snap at any moment like dirty water icicles hang from a grim underpass. O Sweet Lanolin is a bit more piercing and feels like it may be using more that one guitar, as there’s a sinister noise guitar throb pained by sour western tones, with violent high pitched bangs over the top. Later on some dry trashing tones appear, like lighting strikes through electronic spines. Both tracks are interesting and enjoyable in thier own right.
It all comes in Digi-pak featuring art by his fellow youther Kim Gordon. Of course of interest to Sonic youth fans, but also to those who enjoy drawn-out, droning and violent gitar workouts .

Just found this mixed in with some hardcore and emo records. Great sounds.

Dead-Air 11.17.2009 12:21 AM

It's my favorite solo Thurston aside from Psychic Hearts. I didn't know until now that Rob liked it though. That's quite a surprise.

RanaldoNecro 11.17.2009 09:48 AM

I love it too. Listened to it yesterday

RanaldoNecro 11.17.2009 09:54 AM

does anyone have a copy of Melbourne Direct 4 sale?

or a torrent link?

Last I heard you were referring to the SYR releases as "skronk" in a derogatory manner. I thought you were the more "straight up rock dude" in sonic philosophy.

I wouldn't want all of their stuff, but I'd take Flipped Out Bride and From Here to Eternity in and of themselves and trade your cigars for a gigantic bale of weed. I could just play them over and over...
