I prefer to imagine Lee doing Dark Star>Space>Diamond Sea(coda)>Mountains Of The Moon>Space>Mote(coda)>Dark Star(reprise)>Space>Karenology(coda)>Feedback

...other Lee/Dead* contenders I can imagine include but are not limited to: The Other One, High Time, or New Speedway Boogie (snippet of Dead's original appears on SY's Sister Inteview Disc).

*Too good not to use as title for a Lee & The Dust GDead covers album with Nels Cline, Medeski, a second drummer/percussionist (Corsano, Bert, etc...?) & fisheye lens photography. Somehow I picture Steve being averse to the idea, though if you check out his Daydream Nation icon you will see he is a rhythm devil.

Cline & Lage arrive in regions of musical space parallel to the Dead-zone, presumably by way of alternate routes:

Very interesting how you suggested Mountains on the Moon and in that interview Lee mentioned that song as one of favs.. i think the 89 Downhill From Here version is one of the best Jerry Garcia performances EVER

Edit..

I was totally thinking of standing on the moon

Mountains Of The Moon is perhaps the best Space-Baroque tune there is, rivaled primarily by The Byrds Space Odyssey. Hendrix's Burning Of The Midnight Lamp could fit with those to make a psych-harpsichord trilogy. You decide:

Sorry if this has already been mentioned: "Mountains On The Moon" it is.

Five songs from this 3CD set can now be heard "officially" via the YouTubes. As much as I like Jenny Lewis, Courtney Barnett's take on "New Speedway Boogie" is the absolute highlight. In fact, I bet it's better than all the other 58 tracks. And better than the whole Grateful Dead discography.
