What's the best biography on Nirvana?

Come As You Are, Heavier Than Heaven, both of them at the same time, or is it some other book I should be looking to buy?

heavier than heaven..... excellent read.....

I went to this Spiritualist Church the other week, and Kurt Cobain got in touch with me. He said that everyone's got it wrong about Courtney, but she mustn't forget to feed the cat again. That's better than any biography, if you ask me.

Come As You Are is good, but a little sanitised. Between that and Heavier Than Heaven you'll get pretty much the full picture.

heavier than heaven except the part about kurt raping the turtles with pencils. Grossed me out.

The Evertt True one is pretty good too I thought. Saying that, you can't go wrong with the Cross one.

I'd suggest to completely avoid Heavier Than Heaven. Courtney helped with the book and pretty much told Charles Cross what to write and what not to write and threw in some bullshit for good measure. Charles Cross never even met Kurt; Compare that to Michael Azzerad, who interviewed Kurt for months when he was about to write Come as You Are.

The CAYA book is a little bit too "Nirvana are the best band ever! They never do anything wrong! Kurt is the best person to ever live!" at times, but if I had to recommend any Nirvana book, that would be it.

EDIT: I second the Everett True book.

Both are very good but Heavier than Heaven is prob. better.

Heavier Than Heaven
Cobain Journals

That's pretty much all you need if you're mostly interested in Kurt.

The Education of a Coach by David Halberstam

I really enjoyed heavier than heaven it had a lot of research behind it where Cross really does a great job trying to understand the mindset of his actions. I know CAYA was written when kurt was still alive but i havent read it yet...
