Recommend me 1 record to buy now

so business is finally picking up (ha ha) which means i can start buying records again!

so i want to order some vinyl sweetness

the one i have been most addictively enjoying for the greatest part of the year has been this:

yes i play it almost every day. crazy. and i like it better every time.

but anyway--

what else would you guys recommend? i don't really feel like something weird/experimental, but something with a melody (ha) that i can play lots.

how about this one? you guys like?

^^^ oh what a dunce i just "discovered" there is a whole thread devoted to this album.

any other ideas?

My friend has been playing me this a lot over the past week or so.Loads of good tracks on it:
The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs

Yeah, the YLT one is really good. If you like Cat Power and more folky stuff then I HIGHLY recommend Neko Case's newest album Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, although Im not sure if its available on vinyl. Might be though.

!@#$%! 10.18.2006 02:26 PM

actually i dont like folky stuff much but i do adore cat power for some reason-- is it her voice? her hypervulnerable persona? i don't know...

i heard some of those neko case songs on an npr thing when it came out & heard something about her sister one thing or another but wasn't really blown away.but thanks i might download mp3s & give it another listen.

the magnetic fields? thanks porkie. i'm checking that out.

pantophobia 10.18.2006 02:28 PM

get the new erase errata if you haven't already

new les georges leningrad should be out soon, was supposed to be out already but it seems they are having distribution difficulties

gmku 10.18.2006 02:28 PM

YLT's good.

Good melodic rock -- Black Sabbath - Paranoid. Cheap Trick first LP. Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers, Exile..., or Let It Bleed. How many do you want me to list?

!@#$%! 10.18.2006 02:35 PM

gmku , thanks for answering, but no classic rock please, that is what these people in this town play all day on the radio.

i was thinking of something new to my ears since a year in the boonies has disconnected me from a lot that is going on right now. i hear that brightback morning light are my neighbors. it's that remote.

brother panto-- erase errata!! hm... i love angry women, so that's gotta be a candidate for immediate acquisition. les georges leningrad i unfortunately missed the eskimo lp... i will look around for them though.

Don't know why I never bought this. I had one track on a compilation and I really liked it...

porkmarras 10.18.2006 02:37 PM

Not new stuff but i have been listening to a lot of Cocteau Twins recently.Either that or Shakira,Anastacia,Aguilera and Timberlake in many bars and pubs.

Have any Lightning Bolt yet? Hypermagic Mountain is sweet thunder.

Royal Trux? Veterans of Disorder is on wax, and is to die for!

I haven't found much in the last two years or so that really knocks my socks off, though, sorry. Maybe some Fugazi, if you don't already? Argument is good, and so is Red Medicine, End Hits.

There's way too many songs on it but a lot of them are really good.

Get new Timberkins. Everyone needs Timberkins.

Inhuman 10.18.2006 02:52 PM

You should invest in some

Raekwon
Built for Cuban Linx II is coming out this month, and the beats are created by Dr.Dre and RZA, two of the best beatmakers ever.

Laibach
Kinda like Rammstein....only WAY better. German metal mixed with discohouseish beats

Dr.Dre
The Chronic, I reccomend this to everyone. Excellent G-funk album with tonnes of George Clinton/ Funkadelic/ Parliment Samples

Funkadelic
Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow is sweet if you like a real mixture of styles in albums. I like how Clinton doesn't focus on a single style, but has every song sounding completely different.

Gang Gang Dance
cool noisy african-sounding music. Difficult to describe how they sound like, but my brother played with them so you know they MUST be good

porkmarras 10.18.2006 02:52 PM

Yeah Timberlake is on the list of records to buy.He looks sexier than 3 big lorry drivers put together at the moment.

Rob Instigator 10.18.2006 02:54 PM

I know I harp on this endlessly, but I find TV on THE RADIO to be so great. they move me and rock me and send em to another place and they have beautiful melodies, very inventive.
their new one is out now, but not on vinyl. Return to Cookie Mountain

My favorite record of the year:

Charalambides - A Vintage Burden

gmku 10.18.2006 03:01 PM

A word of advice, too: If possible, don't listen to the radio, especially not "classic rock" radio. Then you'll be much more able to appreciate masterpieces like Sticky Fingers, Exile..., Black Sabbath, and all that other sweet boomer stuff.

Rob Instigator 10.18.2006 03:05 PM

very true gmku

same goes for oldies stations, they will play the same songs until you neverwant to hear a chuck berry tune again. it is a sacrilege!

charalambides! straight out of Houston!

no no, well, yes, i like pre-80s rolling stones, i'm not crazy about black sabbath, i like zeppelin in spite of the radio (ha), i'm just looking for tracks that my ears have never been exposed to before.

and thanks to everyone for your suggestions
tv on the radio!
charalambides!
and inhuman, a lot of that stuff i dont know, and doesn't sound like what i listen regularly but i will take a look, i'm no too extremely narrow-minded.

i guess what i'll end up doing is getting a list then going on an mp3 hunt befor i decide on the vinyl purchases. oh yes!

ps- and yes i have everything by lightning bolt and though i love them intensely i can't listen to them either on a daily basis nor on perpetual replay mode.
