Hi,

My last concert in Paris will turn into a bad memory. The place was a small refurnished to be hip barge (le Petit Bain). Some people there were awful. Rude, noisy, there to be the center of attention, trying to be funny barking at the band. And you could hush them they'd tell you you were free to leave the place.
Is it because it is Paris? Or a "new" place, like the Point Ephémère was (shitty attitudes there back in 2012) - for in other places it's not that bad (la Maroquinerie).

Right after Paris I moved to Kortrijk, Belgium, and was impressed by the crowd's attitude and respect to one another. Even during sets bouncier than the one in Paris.

What audiences do you feel comfortable with, why and where (even places miles away from my place, I'd like to know)?

Its a big reason I don't really go to shows anymore. They're just not fun. I'd like to see Meg Baird and Mary Lattimore open for Steve Gunn in Feb but I know the audience will be shit.


The whole show paradigm is a cliche, and basically shows happen to sell alcohol, at least in the States.

in my town, the audience is generally awesome. maybe because of the fact that good bands/projects generally avoid Bratislava so whenever anybody comes, the people appreciate and give back a lot of energy to the musicians.

maybe it's just about people being spoilt in Paris, that they are so rude...

When i first started going to shows 20 years ago London used to be pretty bad, but these days audencies keep their mouths shut.

The one time I came to London for a gig, SY 10 years or so ago, people there seeming not to give a damn about what was going on on stage bemused me. That was the Daydream Nation shows.

Could be common ground for capitals.
I remember a Jon Spencer Blues Explosion gig in Paris in 2014. Two guys in front of us. One talking to the other all through the opening acts. Then Spencer and co come in. And the guy carries on speaking in his friend's ear. Eventually the guy who was there for the show turned around and left the place completely.

Oklahoma crowds can be hit or miss for sure.

Best crowd I have ever been a part of was a small mewithoutYou show in Dallas. Mind-blowing crowd participation.

Assholes and public events go hand in hand.

Always had a good experience at Sonic Youth shows though. Fans probably don’t just wander in to that kind of concert willy nilly without knowing what to expect.

OR, shit was so loud that it drowned the assholes' talk. I've never had the opportunity to see My Bloody Valentine live, but I imagine it's like that. Times ten.

when i saw deafheaven a few months ago i saw everything from siouxsie & the banshee shirts, to napalm death shirts, to tame impala shirts

I couldn't believe how diverse and cool the crowd was. punks, goths, metalheads, and hipster indie folk.

Yeah, recently saw them as well, and I had a similar experience. Not quite as diverse, but my area for the past few years hasn’t been very diverse. But in general, yeah.

Also good fucking show. Goddamn.
