Well, you could just download it from bittorrent trackers like Demonoid... or you could borrow someone's original DVD and then download some activation removal thingy from bittorrent trackers like Demonoid.

Needless to say, you'll be taking the risk of getting virusses and trojans and the likes.

there are legal ways to get a license key for a low price, that's what i advise you to do.

obviously there are other not so legal ways of activating a copy.
spoofing a oem license is probably the easiest safest way.


that said, if you don't like microsoft there are other alternatives.

you can buy a fucking piece of wire and an OEM copy of the software (100% legal) which entitles you to upgrades and updates but not to support. it's for system builders, hence the requirement that you buy maybe a $2 cable with it-- "i'm building a system"-- which of course you are-- system builders/resellers are the ones meant to provide the support so you may not call microsoft with questions-- big fucking deal.

rather put ubuntu or some other masochist open source but legit OS than warez on your machine or you will be crying like a sorry bitch when the computer eats your files and you'll come screaming for us to help us and you'll get all sorts of crappy advice like "reformat your hard drive".

basically i have windows vista, it came preinstalled on this thing. so i would like to upgrade to windows 7 because apparently vista is no good and im supposed to?

i already made a thread asking about 7 and for advice on what to do to keep my new laptop safe, like what programmes to d/l for spyware and all but noone helped.

i am prepared to take time and follow instructions and do whatever is necessary to keep this machine in top order because it cost me so much cash and i cannot in anyway afford for it to fuck up.

k, vista is "no good"? it's a little clunky, it's fine for most purposes. i assume it came with some sort of backup DVD for reinstall in case of HD crash, yes?

why would you trade a legit, supported, 100% alright OS for some risky-ass mangy street-dog of an illegal OS? the thrill of "crime"?

if you want ubuntu, fine, you can dualboot (i.e. no need to wipe out your vista install), you can play with it and find some useful tools, but i find any kind of open source OS a pain in the ass to deal with. verme here is a computer ninja & can do somersaults while he whistles with his farts and juggles 3 keyboards in the air, but the rest of us aren't/can't though a lot of people pretend to know what they are babbling about.

stick to your vista and start making music and movies which is what you got your machine for. later maybe you can buy a win7 upgrade or something. but don't get distracted with bullshit popular notions. oh and get your antivirus, set up your firewall, etc.. i've got avast free/home version and it's just fine.

oh, and avoid warez/torrents/keygens cuz that's how the big cock of computer AIDS gets into your ulcerated rectum. guaranteed to get ill. avoid. there are plenty of free legit tools that won't make you sick, e.g. the gimp or photoshop elements instead of the big photoshop (which most people don't use anyway), adobe premiere elements or pinnacle for movies, not sure if there are low cost versions of vegas, etc, etc. linux has some free/open source music/movie editors but i don't know much about it.

now stop worrying about some fucking OS and go make music.

if it came preinstalled with vista, check with the computer manufacturer to see if you qualify for cheap upgrade.

I recently built a pc and I believe it was $20 to upgrade from the vista copy I recieved. this may be because I needed the os prior to 7s release.

if it's not cheap, keep vista. it could be worse.
