Great Live Records

Ive noticed lately that with the right band or musician a live record can open a new perspective to their work.Live Rust kind of makes me feel what it would be like to be at a neil young show, even though i havent gone to one.Built to spill's live cd also shows how they're a different band showing how they expand upon their songs and really stretch them out in such an interesting direction.

So what are some of your favorite live records or bands u think are really something special live? (please refrain from the predictable phish and grateful dead references, i wanna hear other answers)

Some of Mine:
Neil Young- Live Rust
Velvet Underground- The Quine Tapes, LIve 1969, Legendary Guitar Amp Tapes, 93 Reunion show
Built To Spill- Live
Bob Dylan- Bootleg series live 1966
Television- The Blow Up
Beatles- Apple Rooftop Concert
Any dino jr or sonic youth live bootleg
Pillows- Live at the liquid room 97
Pixies Reunion live cd (love that extended feedback version of "vamos")

jsust curious, how many dylan records do you own?

dazedcola 06.23.2006 01:14 AM

oh yea i forgot to mention hendrix band of gypsys, i just listened to that this week and had my mind blown away by his incredible way to convey his energy through his guitar. Also Pink Floyd-Live 66/67 is a great cd and is the only good quality material of syd barrett playing live. Its simply amazing to see how he just improvises all this great soloing off the top of his head.

What's yr guys favorite from the Bootleg Series....mine is Volume 5, The Rolling Thunder one.

Norma J 06.23.2006 01:35 AM

I only have Hard Rain. I don't have the other live albums, I will do though, eventually. The Rolling Thunder Review would have been amazing to witness.

krastian 06.23.2006 01:37 AM

Yeah man, with Ginsberg jumping about.

Norma J 06.23.2006 01:40 AM

Indeed. I have a Dylan photo book which was from one particular photoshoot out in the country, where Ginsberg, and his lover, accompanied Dylan. So lot's of him in the book, too. Great book.
