perfect songs

so,i think there are a few "perfect songs"...i mean, not the best songs in the world, just songs that you like and have NOTHING,not a single note,a sigle background noise,a pause or wathever that you'd like to change and that give you shivers for their sheer beauty every time you listen to them.i'll start with a short list of mines:
to bring you my love - p.j.harvey
first breath after coma - explosions in the sky
water - blonde redhead
venus in furs - VU
fear of fireflies - calla
schizophrenia - sonic youth (duh)
mad world - gary jules
she moves in secret ways - polly paulusma
pull the wires from the wall - the delgados
the kidnapper bell - mono
all we ever wanted was everything - bauhaus
heart and hands - devics

uh,so many "romantic" choices

this is not exactly like a "your fav songs of all time",but kinda...forgive me.

Danny Himself 10.18.2006 09:32 AM

'For Sale: The Preston school of Industry' - Pavement
'Range Life' - Pavement
'Brave Men Run' - Sonic Youth
'Macbeth' - Ciccone Youth

sonicl 10.18.2006 09:32 AM

Most of my "perfect songs" are by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds:

The Ship Song
Are You The One That I've Been Waiting For?
Into My Arms
Straight To You

Or Cowboy Junkies:

Sun Comes Up, It's Tuesday Morning
'Cause Cheap Is How I Feel

HaydenAsche 10.18.2006 09:34 AM

I second First Breath After Coma. The part where the drums kick in is the most beautiful part of music ever.
These are good too:
Jewel - Foolish Games
Cat Power - Moonshiner, No Sense, and You May Know Him
Joanna Newsom - Swansea and "En Gallop"
mewithoutYou - Bullet to Binary
Norma Jean ft. Aaron Wiess - Memphis Will Be Laid To Waste
At the Drive-in - Rascuache
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps
Xiu Xiu - Apistat Commander, Hives Hives, and their Bauhaus cover
Radiohead - Planet Telax
Parenthetical Girls - The Weight She Fell Under
Death Cab for Cutie - Expo '86
CoCo Rosie - Terrible Angels
Animal Collective - Winter's Love

Sorry, Hayden, but Chan Marshall has a terrible voice, and no song on which she sings could ever be perfect.

Do feel free to be rude about Nick Cave in return, he's no great shakes in the vocal department either.

I just don't like anything the Bad Seeds have ever done. Chan Marshall's voice is fucking brilliant and every song she sings is heartbreaking.

You have no taste, dear. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.

nicfit 10.18.2006 09:42 AM

dddddddddaamn,sonicl,you ruined the mood!i was giggling and all,now i'm worried that this thread could turn into a chan/bad seeds bashing/supporting thing :( ;) :)
hayden, eits just finished recording their new album, but it will be released next spring i think...hopefully it will leak before the official release date, usually they don't care at all about sharing and stuff like that...and i'll buy it as soon as it come out,i simply can't wait that long.their travels in constant ep is amazing too.

sonicl 10.18.2006 09:43 AM

Don't worry, Hayden's put me right.

But he's totally wrong about The Bad Seeds.

I'm not being blunt and saying they aren't good. I just don't find anything they've ever done enjoyable.

Savage Clone 10.18.2006 09:47 AM

Savage Clone 10.18.2006 09:52 AM

Here are a few songs I consider to be unfuckwithable:

La Fievre by Overhang Party
Collision and Be Here Now by Loop
Supercoven by Electric Wizard
Archangels Thunderbird by Amon Duul II
Cathedral by Felt
Jesu Dod by Burzum
Dreamin' Demon by The Birdmen Of Alkatraz
Take Me To The Other Side by Spacemen 3
Ikon by High Rise

sonicl 10.18.2006 09:55 AM

Mr Clone's just inspired me to name another one:

Primitive Painters by Felt

I've gone weak at the knees just thinking about that song.

Hip Priest 10.18.2006 09:55 AM

Athlete Cured (Peel Session Version) - The Fall

Savage Clone 10.18.2006 09:57 AM

Felt have about 97 perfect songs.

sonicl 10.18.2006 09:59 AM

Savage Clone 10.19.2006 09:00 AM

Mother Sky by Can

DemonBox 10.19.2006 09:03 AM

Could You Be The One - Hüsker Dü

Just the most perfect power-pop song in the world. Just fantastic.

And the Gun Club - Sex Beat, and Mother Of Earth are just as perfect as possible.

Belle & Sebastian are great at making perfect pop-tunes such as Lazy Line Painter Jane, Asleep On A Sunbeam, Dog On Wheels, and Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying.

DemonBox 10.19.2006 09:10 AM

Elliott Smith - Calling Up Roses

Sonic Youth - Schizophrenia

Motorpsycho - Trapdoor

Glice 10.19.2006 09:24 AM

There's some good choices here. Hip Priest is most correct. Votes for Schizophrenia are also correct. The Peel box set version of Smile is also perfect. Whoever voted for the Delgadoes is also correct.

My votes go for: Special D - Come With Me; The Carpenters - Goodbye to Love; Abba - Dancing Queen; The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World; Meanwhile, back in Communist Russia - Morning After Pill [I'll up this one later if I remember, much neglected band]; Atari Teenage Riot - Start the Riot; Bomb 20 - Flip Burgers or Die!!!!; ELO - Mr Blue Skys; Pretty much anything by Keiji Haino; Pulp - Babies/ do you remember the first time?...

I'll stop there, I'm getting a little too excited. I've done a little wee in my pants.

gmku 10.19.2006 10:02 AM

"Like a Rolling Stone" on the 1966 concert recording.

porkmarras 10.19.2006 11:50 AM

The one that always springs to mind is Glen Campbell's 'Wichita Lineman'.Such a perfect song.

gmku 10.19.2006 11:53 AM

How can there be so many perfect songs? They can't all be perfect. If there really are perfect songs out there, how come we're not all naming the same songs?

porkmarras 10.19.2006 11:57 AM

Well,i'm gutted that noone has mentioned 'Witchita Lineman' as there is no fault to be found on that song.Perfect from start to finish and the fact that it is sang by a studmuffin adds to all the pleasurable things in this world.

gmku 10.19.2006 11:59 AM

We could make a mix tape from this thread. The Most Perfect Songs in the Universe Ever. Or something.

screamingskull 10.19.2006 12:04 PM

Eels - Estate Sale.

Sonic Youth - Cotton Crown, Washing Machine, Sugar cane.

"And I need you more than want you/ and I want you for all ti-i-iime..."

True. That is excellent, perfect. On the Country tip, Hank Williams' When you're tired of breaking others hearts, Dolly Parton's My Tennessee mountain home/ coat of many colours and Willie Nelson's blue eyes crying in the rain. Oh, fuck me... Fucking... Kenny Rogers' Lucille. That's on a mixtape. Such an outstandingly perfect song.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 10.19.2006 01:48 PM

there is only one song that I think of as perfect....

Grateful Dead, Eyes of the World, live Feb 2, 1978. yes, I said it. deal with it.
