World Cup 2010: South Africa ponders vuvuzela ban

There are limits to cultural tolerance, aren't there?

I hope these blowing horns will be banned from inside stadiums.
Viewers can't hear ball kicks. They drown out supporters' songs. Players can't communicate well because of the noise.

that's getting a bit much really, even on TV.
out of respect please.

wellcharge 06.13.2010 11:32 PM

fuckin shit, ive had to tweak my audio settings during matches cuz i couldn't hear shit except for the swarm of mad bees coming out of the speakers.

the trick is to drop all the treble & take some of the bass out & you can hear the, what's the word, sportscasters? you know, the people who name the players, comment, etc.? they're mostly on the midrange. still you hear the noise but the voice is clearer.

i can imagine this must be torture for the players, holy mother of fuck, that's how they got noriega out of the vatican embassy in panama-- noise torture (in his case i think it was guns n roses).

anyway fuck yes, BAN THEM NOW. they make no fucking sense, they don't work for one team or another, it's just this constant fucking noise, what breathing exercises for the crowd or something? fuckem. burn them. DO IT NOW.

SonicBebs 06.14.2010 02:37 AM

i think they sound like a Jim O'Rourke record

Toilet & Bowels 06.14.2010 03:53 AM

i don't mind them

Glice 06.14.2010 04:00 AM

It's made watching it more tolerable. It reminds me of Scelsi.

nicfit 06.14.2010 04:06 AM

SUNN O))) will use them for the new record.

pokkeherrie 06.14.2010 04:33 AM

I don't mind them either... at least not on TV.
They'd probably drive me nuts if I were inside the stadium. From what I read they reach up to 130 decibels and the fans start blowing them as soon as they enter the stadium (i.e. you'd be hearing them constantly for about 3-4 hours).

SonicBebs 06.14.2010 05:45 AM

i think the English 'band' are much worse. 2 songs. 2 fucking songs for the last 33 years. If i hear "the great escape" 1 more time i'll get cross and mutter under my breath

wellcharge 06.14.2010 09:13 AM

watching now and i love this shit, sounds better than electric rock guitars for sure

pokkeherrie 06.14.2010 09:25 AM

definitely.

someone had to do it:

wellcharge 06.14.2010 09:30 AM

it reminds me of the toy horns they sell at the brass band contest in serbia, 4 days of this sound, 24 hours

Rob Instigator 06.14.2010 10:00 AM

loudness. love noise of all types

knox 06.14.2010 10:41 AM

well i like silence.

chicka 06.14.2010 10:58 AM

I prefer to hear the crowds singing and chanting back and forth at one another which gives the game an ebb and flow feeling. These horns just
make for one long steady noise that drown out the emotions of the game.
