The Germs

They may be one of the most overrated punk bands ever and their singer may have been a talentless Sid Vicious wannabe. But I'm sure there are those among us with no imagination or mind of their own who choose to believe the hype.

So for those numbskulls, this article from today's Observer may be of some interest.

Twats.

atsonicpark 08.24.2008 04:57 PM

Pat Smear was an awesome guitar player. Some really creative guitar lines.

Pookie 08.24.2008 04:58 PM

Twat.

atsonicpark 08.24.2008 05:17 PM

Okay.

batreleaser 08.24.2008 05:35 PM

yeah the germs are good dude, like the brige between early la punk rock and la hardcore. and according to your half assed comparison every punk rocker junkie in the world is a sid vicious wannabe. i think darby is lame too, but sid vicious wannabe? who gives a fuck. and pat smear was rad.

atsonicpark 08.24.2008 05:41 PM

Pat Smear was the star of the band in my opinion.

Pookie 08.24.2008 05:42 PM

You never would have heard of him if he hadn't been in Nirvana.

atsonicpark 08.24.2008 05:43 PM

I didn't even know he was in Nirvana until a few years ago when I heard "From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah" and went, "Whoa, who's that second guitar player?"

By then, I'd already had the Germs discography.

Pookie 08.24.2008 05:46 PM

Yeah, right:rolleyes:

atsonicpark 08.24.2008 05:50 PM

Yeah... right.

What point are you trying to make? I never paid attention to Nirvana or who was playing second guitar for live shows I never saw.

Pookie 08.24.2008 05:52 PM

Yeah right:rolleyes:

MellySingsDoom 08.24.2008 05:58 PM

Pointless off-topic post: My go-to band for all fings punk rawk at t'moment are Crass - incredibly tuneless, but brutal, and Totally English. The original version of "Reality Asylum" cuts even Whitehouse for extremity - and this in 1978! Incredible.

Yeah, I know I'm right....?!

I don't know what to say.

I heard the entire Ramones, Screeching Weasel, Vandals, Operation Ivy, Bad Religion, NOFX, and probably a thousand other great and shitty punk bands' discographies before I ever heard Nevermind all the way through.

Never been a big Nirvana fan.

Pookie 08.24.2008 06:07 PM

Yeah right:rolleyes:

atsonicpark 08.24.2008 06:08 PM

I'm not even going to bother replying anymore, you're retarded.

demonrail666 08.24.2008 06:38 PM

Can we change the subject of this thread to something more interesting than the FREAKIN' GERMS, please?

maybe so, but not many 8 year old kids would be familiar with the germs. and id be damned if 90 percent of people 25 and under hadnt heard nirvana prior to the germs.

Pookie 08.24.2008 06:43 PM

Yeah, right:rolleyes:

Of course most people had heard Nirvana before the Germs...

I don't think the average person-who-has-listened-to-Nirvana knows Pat Smear played for a few shows before Kurt Cobain killed himself though.

Pookie 08.24.2008 06:47 PM

Yeah right:rolleyes:

Cantankerous 08.24.2008 11:39 PM

not my favourite band by any stretch of the imagination.

and yes, i knew pat smear was in nirvana before i knew who the germs were.

Death & the Maiden 08.25.2008 02:07 AM

The Germs are alright, but they can be really annoying. What We Do Is Secret is one of my favourite punk songs. And I'd heard The Germs before I knew Pat Smear was in Nirvana.

MellySingsDoom 08.25.2008 02:15 AM

I haven't heard a single note by The Germs, and don't intend to either. Give me fuzz guitar and hate anyday of the year.

GravitySlips 08.25.2008 03:42 AM

I didn't even know Pat Smear was ever in Nirvana til I read this thread.

king-buzzo 08.25.2008 04:05 AM

Was Pat Smear in a band? I thought he was a clerk in a record store.

Everyneurotic 08.25.2008 08:20 AM

i love the germs!!! and i love darby, he was way more talented and smarter than sid vicious.

mostly is the forming single and (gi), the rest...well..."no god" is awesome.

and the star of the band was don bolles.

gmku 08.25.2008 08:28 AM

Punk rock history, so I'm not going to knock it too much. When I'm in the mood, it's downright engaging--intelligent and noisy.

batreleaser 08.25.2008 08:44 AM

i live the collection "M.I.A.", i down own (gi) anymore, but i got the compilation on vinyl, which is just as considering the whole thing of (gi) is on there not to mention a shitload of others.

gmku 08.25.2008 08:49 AM

I bought the GI reissue on vinyl and I think it's pretty fine. One of my favorite examples of minimalistic cover artwork, by the way.

atsonicpark 12.08.2010 11:11 AM

Amazing band, yesterday was the 30 year anniversary of Darby Crash's death. RIP!

LifeDistortion 12.08.2010 12:59 PM

Been dusting off my punk rock records myself. Favorite song would probobly be "Forming" have the urge to see "The Decline of Western Civiliazation" now.

krastian 12.17.2010 08:45 PM

"We Must Bleed" is one of my favorite songs of all time. So great.

Glice 12.17.2010 09:13 PM

Oh, so Keeping it Simple is Pookie. It all makes sense now. Well played sir.

Murmer99 12.18.2010 01:16 AM

i love The Germs. what a crappy thread.
