A bulk of CDs

I bought quite a bulk of CDs today via the awesome online store Mimaroglu run by Keith Fullerton Whitman (http://www.mimaroglumusicsales.com/). It cost me over 100$ but I'm happy as fuck. See what I'm getting:

suishou no fune "the light of dark night"

todd merrell / aidan baker / patrick jordan "nagual"

deerhunter "cryptograms"

valet "blood is clean"

white rainbow "prism of eternal now"

cloudland canyon "silver tongued sisyphus"

the books "the lemon of pink"

My choices were completely random, based only on sound samples that I got to hear on the site. Have you heard any of those and what do you think of them? Is there a reason for me to be so excited about them? ;)

EDIT - I just realized this looks like a total spam post. Which it, in fact, is.

i'm always pleased to see threads on this board with lists that contain bands i've never heard of before.

jimbrim 12.01.2007 01:15 PM

Good choices. I own the White Rainbow and Books records, and their both fantastic. Ive heard the Deerhunter album's meant to be quite good listening as well.

Everyneurotic 12.01.2007 01:24 PM

you're not getting disappointed with that suishou disc, it's amazing!

also, for the first time in a long time i can afford to lay down a decent size chunk of cash on records, so i'm mulling over this list of stuff and i'll then order some of it

heavy winged
blues control
homostupids
a music your mind will love you compilation
ash pool
prurient
raccoo-oo-oon
unaustralians
der schritt/der pilz
death chants
xnobbqx
castings
goliath bird eater
j d emmanuel
vxpxc

Everyneurotic 12.01.2007 01:38 PM

speaking of which, i wasn't really keen on the self titled cd by blues control, is cool and all but not something to get terribly excited about.

Nice collection of music. Hope you like 'Nagual' - I was really happy with how it came out. Oh, and Optimal EP - great stuff. Shuttle358's best, if you ask me...

Toilet and Bowels, lots of great bands you listed there...I'm too busy right now to look it up, what's "a music your mind will love you compilation"?Slavo, that white rainbow disc is good, and that deerhunter disc is also surprisingly good. Delayed guitars!!! Oh, and everyone who hasn't yet should check out some of Keith Fullerton Whitman's work.

Rob Instigator 02.21.2008 04:25 PM

i wanna rock

Toilet & Bowels 02.21.2008 04:29 PM

then listen to the homostupids!

Rob Instigator 02.21.2008 04:43 PM

homostupids' not too bad!

but I'd rather rock to JANITOR!

sarramkrop 02.22.2008 03:49 AM

I've listened to the homostupids myspace but they are not that good. In fact I've found them a little boring. Same with Ash Pool. Deerhunter and vxpxc are cool, though.

It's not often that I agree with you, atsonicpark, but this an opinion that I heartily endorse.

sarramkrop 02.22.2008 03:59 AM

I never knew until I read this thread that Keith Fullerton Whitman is Hrvatski. I've always bought his records and never investigated any further.

http://www.myspace.com/hrvatski

sonicl 02.22.2008 04:18 AM

What Hrvatski stuff do you have? I don't find that stuff as satisfying as I do the KFW stuff, but maybe I just haven't listened to the right things.

sarramkrop 02.22.2008 04:27 AM

Swarm & Dither (my favourite)
Oiseaux 96-98
Irrevocably Overdriven Break Freakout Megamix

sonicl 02.22.2008 04:37 AM

I have Irrevocably Overdriven etc etc etc, and I like that, but Oiseaux didn't do much for me. I've often been tempted by Swarm and Dither, but, not having heard it, I've always changed my mind at the last minute.

sarramkrop 02.22.2008 04:43 AM

I also have some tracks scattered on compilations etc. Well, if you don't like it you don't like it, it's not like you have to force yourself or anything.

sonicl 02.22.2008 04:53 AM

Really? So that's where I've been going wrong all these years...

sarramkrop 02.22.2008 05:01 AM

Now that you know, do you feel a little different? Did your tummy retract a little? That's generally the first reaction from your body when something new happens to you.

_slavo_ 02.22.2008 05:11 AM

Hrvatski is some breakcore or something like that, am I right?

sarramkrop 02.22.2008 05:22 AM

Please don't use the b*******e word, if you can. He is an electronica musician with surreal, abstract tendendencies (glitch, cutandfuckingpaste, field recordings, guitars blah blah blah). Or, alternatively, a more focused and less prolific version of scissor shock.

_slavo_ 05.26.2008 02:06 AM

Hah, as the US dollar now hit the rate of 19SKK / 1 USD, I decided to put another order via Mimaroglu music sales.. (it was over 30 SKK / 1 USD a couple of years ago)

I purchased the following items:

landing "gravitational iv" long playing record
valet "blood is clean" compact disc
taiga remains "ribbons of dust" compact disc
peter wright "at last a new dawn" double compact disc set
alexander turnquist "faint atthe loudest hour" compact disc

yay, second Christmas for me :)

_slavo_ 05.26.2008 09:20 AM

Nice :) . I spent half of yesterday sitting at the lovely Mimaroglu website - mr. Fullerton Whitman got it neatly sorted, with sound samples, excessive descriptions and such. A lovely webstore!

Savage Clone 05.26.2008 09:48 AM

My friend bought a rare LP from him once, and it came with a CDR version enclosed. I guess he is quite the archivist!

How were they?

_slavo_ 07.18.2008 03:45 AM

Excellent. Taiga Remains is the best one of them I guess. Very soothing, Hardwick-like. Peter Wright is awesome too, very diverse stuff spread across 2CDs. The Alexander Turnquist I don't recommend that much, since there's much more interesting fingerpicking stuff out nowadays as this CDs.
