Rave About Something That Makes You Happy

It's fucking January, a month I usually associate with an excess of negativity. So let's throw some positivity into the mix. Fuck knows there's a dire need for that right now. So I decided to open this thread as a companion to "Bitch About Things You're Pissed Off About". Here be rose-tinted glasses, positive surprises, fascination, love and whatnot. Okay, I'll start:

In spite of all the little obstacles, my initial grumpy stupor and the motivational downward spiral that had transpired over the last few of my events, I had a blast yesterday. Many nice people showed up. I was able to relax a bit and I was in good spirits. Just a chill atmosphere, no one up to no good and I actually got to enjoy talking to people as opposed to just hopping around from task to task and being completely on autopilot. More of that, please

ilduclo 01.12.2019 10:38 AM

A great thing about my January. Ms Ild and our cats are generally pretty cold in bad weather, and I generally run warm...so....closeness!

!@#$%! 01.12.2019 11:13 AM

congrats antagon!

more of that for you this year

as for me: right fucking now, see eating thread ha ha ha

Yeah, that's certainly a silver lining. Man, I'd love to have cats, unfortunately I'm allergic to them. Love those little furballs though. Always glad when I get to visit someone with cats. Small dose exposure is totally fine.

Ah, same! Same!

I was going to respond to this (very nice, thank you, Antagon) thread by saying something like, “I’ll let you know when something comes up!” but cold-weather cat cuddles are without question one of the highlights of life.

I come home from work late, exhausted, feeling like general rubbish and lately really noticing the emptiness of a once-shared home and I throw myself on the couch and fire up the Kindle or the laptop for a half hour or so of relative relaxation. And it’s immediate. The moment I’m spread out, my older cat (and long-term cohort and possible best friend) just hops right up, paws at my arm until I move it, and nuzzles himself into my armpit with his little kitty-paws propped up on my shoulder... just purring like a goddamn buzzsaw... and it sometimes makes me tear up a bit.

My younger cat is a little bit less of a smuggler and more of a bitch, but she eventually joins in too. It’s bliss.

The other day I recorded the purring on my phone and saved it as an MP3 on iTunes. Like 10 minutes of purring. Thinking about doing that more, because it’s like Xanax for the ears and heart.

:)

I mean, life still fucking blows a lot, but animals are little pieces of God.

EVOLghost 01.13.2019 01:57 PM

Yeah....animal snuggles are the best. Nothing better than sleeping in a warm bed with 3 animals keepin' ya extra warm. Got a Russian Blue cat, German Shep/Pitbull mix, and a Shi Tzu/Yorkie mix.

Right now I'm feeling happier about how I've ben playing in Street Fighter 3. I feel like I've been getting worse this past year. People who I normally rock started to get better and I lose my composure too much. Even when I was in Chicago for the first week of the year, I lost a lot of matches I never used to lose before....got me really salty. But since then, I've really started to just keep my cool and be a bit more consistent. Not exactly where I want to be, but back on track.
(Also....biggest SF3 tournament of the year just happened. This makes me very happy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEuxit7s9ZI )

nicfit 01.13.2019 05:07 PM

I tidied up my desktop. Might sound stupid, but it's a huge step for me in theese days.

nicfit 01.13.2019 05:24 PM

Monitor Dell u2311h.
Case Lian Li Q01.
Logitech Illuminated keyboard.
Mouse Logitech m590 (I've been using "silent" mouses for years, I need the feedback but the clicking is less intrusive, even if "silent" is definitely an overstatement)

Speakers are Wharfedale DS-1.
Nothing too fancy (the pc is still on sk1150 and I still work with CS6 with no regrets, ahaha..).

I've been thinking about adding a second monitor for years, but nowadays I work mainly on my 13.3" laptop, so adding another "big" screen seems kinda pointless after all. Gotta get a larger desk to make room for other stuff, though (wacom etc).

edit: print by P98a , frame by ikea, scraped wall by yours truly because the paint was ruined and starting to cruble in that section, scraping it I discovered the layer underneath had some weird surface, I guess it was glue for wallpaper or something like that, I kinda grew attached to it and it's staying for now.

Nice!

Jackfruit is interesting....had jackfruit tacos before....not bad. I'd probably never eat them again though.

_slavo_ 01.15.2019 03:30 AM

I have 10 days left to my vacation.
I can't wait.
I am not doing too bad + I got a job enquiry from Switzerland and I'll have a telephone interview today.
Life's not so bad these days.

I had it in a faux pulled pork sandwich before

"it's just as good as the real thing," my vegan friends lied through their teeth

Still - not bad. not pulled pork though :p

ilduclo 01.15.2019 09:03 AM

It’s also the season for soups and hot toddies, so...snuggle up with a kitty, a bowl of homemade soup and your sweetie

So that assignment I recently pretty much phoned in due to time constraints (and which I expected to have a terrible reception) was just rated 90/100. Don't care much about that particular lecture, but it's a nice surprise nonetheless

the best part here though is that i recently got a manduka mat (on sale) and the old and now stiff "natural rubber" jade mat has moved to daytime supine duty

beats, you know, this kind of situation...

I had a telephone interview with a company in Switzerland yesterday evening. It went quite well and they have invited me to a personal meeting in Zurich.
Shit's getting real, yay!

im struggling with fetishism here, and i feel like an idiot with this proclamation, but a decent coffee grinder really makes a nice cup, and now i hope i don’t turn into an obnoxious hipster. i’m already obnoxious as it is and hipsterism would be my perdition.

but for fucks sakes, this coffee!! yes.

Just relax and enjoy your coffee. You may have your worries about whether or not you're slipping into hipsterism afterwards. But first: Indulgence! The pleasure of good coffee is not to be underestimated. Cheers!

growing past your local fish pond is a very good thing.

companies pay for relocation costs, often with housing included, there are new opportunities for growth and the kid’s education. you can take advantage of geographic arbitrage, and it’s not like he needs to take a sailboat for 2 months to get there and face cholera and malaria.

the salary they have offered to me is insane. but also, the cost of living in Zurich is pretty fucked up
however, the relocation package is only limited to covering of some transport costs. but they would help me find a place to live etc.

the only problem is our little girl (4 years old) - the kindergartens in Switzerland cost like 2000 CHF a month which is more than my head is able to process.
I need to think this through properly.

!@#$%! 01.22.2019 09:48 AM

lol i just read about the cost of childcare in switzerland. damn! 2/3 of an average salary they say. must be great or something? no idea. wow. https://www.expatica.com/ch/living/f...erland-106588/

anyway i'd suggest gathering all of your concerns and bringing them up to the company, maybe? that way they could either offer alternatives or even *cough cough* improve their offer somehow? hmmm

when we moved to x-land, back in the paleozoic (i was, oh... 6?), they even hooked us up with the schools i believe. the locals have all the connections of course.
