Admittedly, I don't keep up with the NFL.
But I would love to see the Chargers win the superbowl. Though I don't know Philip, Steve Rivers is a good friend (and old neighbor) of my grandparents. Ironically, he lives on the river and I've been fishing off of his pier many times.

atari 2600 12.31.2006 09:41 PM

That's cool. I'm a big Chargers fan from way back. They've been my favorite NFL team since Dan Fouts headed the "Air Coryell" offense with Charlie Joiner, Kellen Winslow and Rolf Benirschke back in the '80s.

I do wish the Packers would have gotten a shot.

I'd like to see San Diego and New Orleans in the Super Bowl.

The Eagles seem to me to be the best team in the NFC, but, hey, that's this week.
The Giants might just start putting it together, so could the Saints or even the Cowboys possibly. The Seahawks are already putting it together, but it's too little, too late in their case. Chicago could very well go all the way as well; bear in mind (hehe) that what were seeing tonight is a lot of non-starters mixed-in with the starters.

val-holla-ing 12.31.2006 09:46 PM

saints all the way, baby.

TheMadcapLaughs 12.31.2006 09:51 PM

SD are my stompin grounds, encinitas represenT!!!! So im for the chargers, but as a long time chargers fan, i know how they tend to choke, but things could be different this year. Philip Rivers is a bit shakey, but with michael turner and LT, they are hard to stop. There defense is very solid especially against the run, sometimes the secondary sucks balls, but as long as marriman and co brind da pressure, I think the bolts are gonna be tough to beat.

Yes, I made a few changes.

This is the original bracket...

I don't know who the hell to pick, it just seemed like this

might be a fun idea for a thread (since we usually do the NCAA bracket for March Madness).

The Jets are coming on, but they have to go through Foxboro, which upon further contemplation, caused me to pick against them.

Partying on New Year's Eve maybe?

I gotta get out soon. I've been good all day about not drinking.

pantophobia 12.31.2006 10:37 PM

my bracket on the NFC side is the exact opposite (or it was)

Larry Johnson is gonna tear the Indy rush defense to shreds, i hope Seattle now in the postseason will turn some heads

val-holla-ing 12.31.2006 11:17 PM

eff that shit. the saints are going to make history in '07.

val-holla-ing 01.01.2007 03:55 AM

i was holding back on my "who dat?"s, b/c i didn't think anyone on the board would appreciate it. but since you started it...

WHO DAT?!?!?!?!?(even though we lost today, that was for play)

Hip Priest 01.01.2007 08:41 AM

I think it could be CHargers/Eagles in the Superbowl, although from who's there I'd like to see Saints/Chiefs. I don't get as much chance to follow it as our American boardies, though, so I wouldn't trust my predictions.

The Rams started and finished well this year, but the extended ba pach in the middle did for us. Still, there's cause for hope due to a selection of very good team nd individual performances, and on that basis I may as well put the logo up:

I breathed a big sigh of relief when Denver was eliminated yesterday. Actually, you raise a good point, because, personally, I'm more concerned about Kansas City somehow rallying all the way to the AFC Championship game to spoil the Chargers' chances than I am about the threats posed by any other team in the AFC. Thank goodness that the Chiefs have to play the Colts at home.

val-holla-ing 01.01.2007 12:39 PM

i know it won't be easy, but this is the best season they've ever had and it's fucking nuts over here for us. we say "saints all the way!" every season, but this time, everyone's actually serious about that shit.

do you live in lake charles?

val-holla-ing 01.01.2007 12:50 PM

okay. a good buddy of mine is from there. ever heard of the cocker spaniels?

val-holla-ing 01.01.2007 03:29 PM

yeah. it's 1 guy who, until october, was living in beaumont. he's in austin now, though.

what's the music scene like there?

AFC Championship
Ravens vs. Chargers......Ravens win

NFC Championship
Saints vs. Bears........Saints Win

Super Bowl Champions
RAVENS

The Ravens are a bit of a homer pick, but they already proved that they can contain LT and beat the Chargers. Also, I trust McNair and his WR's over Rivers and his WR's. Both defenses are pretty beast and if I had to give a slight edge to one I'd go with the more experienced Ravens here too.

I think that the Saints will beat the Bears mainly because Grossman (I'm guessing he's still starting?) is killing his team with turnovers.....I also look for some big time Reggie Bush magic during the game.

All in all I think that the Ravens D will be a little bit to much for the Saints pretty impressive offense and the Ravens steady offense with Billick calling the plays should lead to another Championship in Charm City.

Oh and RIP Darrent Williams.....he was one of my DB's in Rob's league and the same age as me....craziness.

atari 2600 01.04.2007 04:21 PM

The Ravens were anemic on offense against the Chargers, who controlled most of the game you alluded to, krastian.
If Merriman would have just grappled Heap instead of trying to jack him up, then the Ravens' fourth quarter comeback would have been snuffed and they would have lost that game.

The Ravens could still definitely win though in the AFC Championship game if that's how it goes down and those teams find themselves facing each other again. I still think the Chargers will beat them though in all likelihood.
The Pats (or Jets for that matter) may just take the Chargers out anyway. If Kansas City somehow manages to emerge as a championship contender, then they will, in all probability, defeat the Chargers and whoever the NFC throws at them too. Everyone knows that the Colts Run D is weak, but I still think they'll (thankfully) take care of KC.

The NFC is much tougher to pick. I really think that every team has a shot.
I think I may have to go back to my original bracket with the Eagles going to the Super Bowl.
