Sonic Youth are infinitely more marginal, therefore their influence is closer to being benign. The only band to have only a positive influence on the world is the Shaggs.

I don't mind Gwen's latest stuff. That wind it up single was amaaazin', the weirdest bit of proper pop I've heard in years.

Sonic Youth, because they've lasted longer.

Agreed. I'm not going to say some used idea like "if there were no beatles, there'd be no sonic youth", but we're talking about influence on humanity. Humanity doesn't know the half of sonic youth yet.

beatles. both are great bands, but everyone from five-year-olds to 80-year-olds can enjoy the beatles. not so with sonic youth.

Sonic Youth. Enjoyed 'em at 5, will enjoy them at 80.

The Beatles, obviously. Sonic Youth have been influenced by them. The Beatles weren't influenced by SY though.
