Grizzly Bear

The band. Does anybody have their album Yellow House? Is it good?

Inhuman 01.15.2007 12:16 PM

Augh! They're coming to Ottawa soon and my friends keep telling me that they'd kill me if I don't go. I really want to hear them

Ive got Yellow House! one of my favourites from last year, if you like Animal Collective you would most probably enjoy them.
I saw them last year , they put on a good live show.

noumenal 01.15.2007 12:19 PM

I downloaded one track, On a Neck, On a Spit, from iTunes and it's OK.

jimbrim 01.15.2007 12:22 PM

If you can download 'Knife'. thats a good track. well i like it anyway

Allrighty, will do. Looks like JB linked to the entire album.

Inhuman 01.15.2007 12:42 PM

Inhuman thinks James Brown is a fucking savior. Inhuman's been putting up with his classmate's terrible Limp Bizket album lately, and some Grizzly Bear would be nice

drrrtyboots 01.15.2007 02:31 PM

I saw them open for TVOTR and enjoyed them but i feel they almost rip off AC's earlier material too much.

i like them, but I wouldn't say that their album was one of the best of the year. i'm still debating whether to see them in ottawa. in my opinion Knife is the best song, and if you don't like it then you probably would not like the album. there's also a cool Girl Talk remix of Knife, which can be found on Pitchfork

val-holla-ing 01.15.2007 06:48 PM

it's a pretty dang good album. they're actually playing here in march and my band was supposed to get the opening spot for some garbage indie pop band.

indie-politics are the breaks, i say.

I'm going to have to say I don't think they they rip off Animal Collective. I can't say their aren't similarities, but those probably have more to do with earlier influences they both have. I think they remind me of Brian Wilson smile and nice "Obscured by clouds" era Floyd. Their first album is catchier although maybe not as creative. I like them both. There was also a live bbc mp3 on pitchfork I really, really liked under the news section a few weeks back.

Understandable. Of course, I did walk into the show while they were playing a song with a similar instrument as AC on "Bees".

val-holla-ing 01.16.2007 11:57 PM

you're talking about the autoharp and it's actually pretty common. a friend of mine's mom used to play it in a folk band back in the day.

val-holla-ing 01.16.2007 11:58 PM

anyone heard the girl talk remix/mashup of "knife" and clipse's "wamp wamp (what it do)"?

it's that fire, son.
