Yeah, bring on Adam Driver.

He should be the protagonist of the trilogy.

Watch it flip just enough that his arc is the dominant one. He’s the most interesting character in Star Wars history.

Also he’s Adam Driver. I want to be his friend.

Me, Adam and Ryan Gosling. Playing pool and arguing about music.

Stupid. Should have been a bad guy.

I’m disappointed. Should have been not evil but driven by the wrong righteous cause or something. Redeemed at the end. Like his daddy was.

The Pagemaster

Always enjoyed it as a kid.

"Would You Rather"

What feels like a poor man's Saw and based on the "game" of the same name.

Thinking I wouldn't spend my time with it again, unless I somehow had to.

DEADLY PREY (1987)

hilariously terrible movie i saw recomended by the av club. highly mst3k worthy! makes no fucking sense whatsoever but nonstop shit happening and you’ll laugh, cringe, and yeah you’ll get into it regardless, and cheer for the righteous kills. 0/5 or 5/5 depending on what you’re after. streamable on amazon.

THE COMMITMENTS (1991)

i had heard a lot about this since forever but first time i manage to see. super fun! a bit thin on story or whatever but that would miss the point— this is a cheerful musical after all, with a lot of laughs. would watch again. good times. on streaming netflix

now about to continue another bad movie recommended by the internet

SATURN 3

apparently a ripoff of a ripoff or something. will say it has some cool shots in the first minutes. now let’s see wtf is this about (not really a blu ray, it’s streamable on amazon).

so, saturn 3 (1980) features: farrah fawcett’s titties (lovely, really), kirk douglas’s wrinkled ass (he was in great shape for his age, but ughh), mad-scientist harvey keitel (dubbed), and a plot that reminds me of something but i don’t know what it is. the greatest merit was the visuals though (not just farrah fawcett’s titties, but the whole outer space & spaceship thing, and it was very very ably shot, like, great craft). my wife’s verdict: “this was a weird movie, but i liked it.” me too kinda, but i had a bit of computer games going at the same time.

I always enjoyed the Commitments. I thought it was a good fun movie about making music.

The wife and I watched Shape of Water. I liked it a lot. it is an adult fairy tale.

Strange but true, the screenplay for that was written by Martin Amis.

I've not seen the newest Star Wars film, but I really wished then that they had never involved Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill or Carrie Fisher at all in The Force Awakens.
I thought TFA was a dud when I saw it.

Trainspotting 2

I came to this with a certain trepidation but came away really liking it.

i had that on the other day and totally spaced it out!

should i try again?

demonrail666 04.19.2018 06:33 PM

Definitely! It's a sequel but not just a cynical cash-in.

LifeDistortion 04.19.2018 08:12 PM

Speaking of Trainspotting 2 I'm curious about the latest novel by Irvine Welsh, Dead Man's Trousers. Welsh said its the last book he's writing that will feature the characters from Trainspotting. I still need to read The Blade Artist which is apart of that series as well.

Bronco Bullfrog

Where has this film been all my life? I'd heard about it but had no idea I'd be watching it mouth a-gape as it's filmed precisely (and I mean precisely) where I grew up and features only non-actors from the area. It's ultimately a kind of nouvelle vague-ish take on the birth of skinheads/suedeheads so isn't only of interest to me. Fans of Quadrophenia or This Is England .. this is the real deal.

^^ that looks interesting. never seen “quadrophenia” but heard about it. saw “tommy” some ages ago but thought it was shit so i did not pursue the other.

anyway, finally saw BRIGHT

it’s a funny thing when hollywood parodies say “this meets that” but yeah, this is like lord of the rings meets lethal weapon, ha ha ha. or something like that.

fun and funny and a lot of action and overall a good weekend matinee.

Quadrophenia's excellent. Nothing like Tommy, which I agree is pretty shit.
