"Wednesdays at A's"-A documentary about Arleen Schloss

Currently on post-production. Must be interesting to watch once it's out.

Synopsis and Logline

WEDNESDAYS AT A’S is a feature-length documentary about Arleen Schloss, a noted underground artist, director and curator who was an influential figure in the New York art, video, performance art and music scenes from the 1970s to 1990s.

WEDNESDAYS AT A’S explores how Schloss’s art work evolved and changed with the times. Through exclusive never before seen archival footage shot by Schloss herself, mixed with interviews with people from the scene, we trace her life story and see – from her point of view- how New York City has changed from the 1970’s to present day.

Known as an “artists’ artist,” Schloss began her influence through A’s – an interdisciplinary loft space that became a hub for music, exhibitions, performance art and films. A hotbed of experimentation, A’s featured works from then unknowns Sonic Youth, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Eric Bogosian, Glenn Branca, Shirin Neshat, Phoebe Legere, Sur Rodney Sur and Alan Suiclde.

Schloss gained attention as a critically acclaimed performance artist in the 1970s, A critic once described her voice as a “mix between Yoko Ono and Patti Smith.” These shows, along with A’s, established Schloss as a grand connector and artist who connected people within the underground and mainstream creative communities.

Later on, she integrated technology and lasers into her performance art and became one of the first artists to do so. As new technologies were invented, Schloss was one of the first of a group of artists to integrate technology, sound and video into their art.

Through it all, she has remained a positive voice in people’s lives and continues to help up and coming artists from all over the world.

It is a rule of the board that all threads lately started by me attract only spammers. I'd rather be ignored.
