Travelling

Do you guys travel abroad often? Do you enjoy exploring foreign lands as much as you do?
Then go on, brag about it. I'm a travel freak, trying to visit at least one new country each year. Been doing that for 10 years in a row now and it's highly addictive.

So, where have you been? What's the destination you can't forget?

For me, the top 7 experiences of my life until now would be:

1. Iran
2. China
3. Kyrgyzstan
4. Mexico
5. Singapore
6. Japan
7. Norway

I have been overseas the grand total of once. Last year, my parents sent me to Munich, Germany, for a week and a half with my grandparents. They were going to the wedding of an old exchange student they'd hosted, and my parents felt that it'd be a good experience for me.

It was amazing. Except for the flight in Air China's economy class, which sucked balls (and not in the good way), I would love to do it all again. There's so much fun shit in Munich, the people we were staying with were friendly and had a really nice house, Neuschwanstein Castle is beautiful...so good.

(Also, there were so many cute blond boys :p)

im sorry, im in the himalayas right now and the sat phone has only 2.4k :D

but ok, truth: i don't like traveling and tourism that much anymore. it's expensive, it's annoying, and after a few days i'm ready to go back home, especially if we're talking about being constantly on the move. and i can't hitchhike and sleep anywhere like i did back in the day. i like my own bed & toilet haaa haaaa haaaaaa.

what i really like is going to live in new places, at least for a while, so that i can really feel it like a local, at least a little bit.

i once had a really memorable summer in baltimore of all places haaa haaa haa haaa. srsly, 3 months there doing nothing was fantastic. mostly because of the doing nothing.

also, spent a year in israel which was... definitely memorable.

paris is incredible but rents are a bit out of my price range right now. ah, fucking paris, that place is too much. but if money was no object i'd go there right now, protests & all.

no longer interested in nueva york.

That's ok, I'm in a rainforest in Papua New Guinea currently being boiled in a cauldron by cannibal tribe. They have 5G here though.

I spent 3 months in Baltimore too, man. But I was working my ass off on a gas station in a very bad neighborhood, so maybe that's why my memories are not as fond as yours.

!@#$%! 12.05.2018 08:08 AM

oh ha ha ha ha

that is a harsh thing.

i stayed on the edge of federal hill. the housing was not the best but i loved that neighborhood. read a ton of great books, watched a lot of good movies (there was a vhs rental place), had coffee at... what was the name... world... something, would go to used bookstores, eat seafood at the market. even went to an orioles game.

i really love the dolce far niente wherever it may happen lololol

but seriously, geographic arbitrage has been in my mind in recent years. recently been thinking about thailand, political turmoil and all.

Thailand is calm man, don't get fooled. If you only want to go there for a couple of weeks and chill on the beaches, you're perfectly safe. I'd even take my little daughter there (which is not the case for Colombia where I'm going in January - that's not for little children, I suppose)

greenlight 12.05.2018 08:22 AM

in January already? nice Slavo.

i would not go to a resort situation but to expat life

calm yes but i have a friend who was raped there :(

i know this can happen anywhere so im not holding it against thailand, but still

(every place has its dark side)

still a few years into the future... we’ll see how things evolve

well yes but there’s also the whole sex tourism industry which doesn’t attract the best global clientele...

in the case of my friend, the assailant was a local who took her for a night out and left her beaten in a ditch

yeah...

anyway, i do enjoy your positive outlook on life, please never lose it, but keep an eye out for trouble

floatingslowly 12.05.2018 10:35 PM

Hell, I haven’t been home in over five years. Does that count as travelling? I’m not sure it does. I reckon I’ll die here.

Disclaimer: Racism yea! Dont send a Kosovan hitsquad after me, I can't be arsed.
How's Yogoslavia treating you Slavo? Is everywhere blown up yet?! I swear all eastern European countries melt into one - it might be the similar looking flags...or... bombs. I guess Mihajlovic is the president now remember him? He was a footballer (remember football?) In the 90's (remember the 90's?). Used to bang them in top binns from free-kicks for Lazio (remember channel 4 Sunday afternoons). Cultured left-back: uncultured brain. He was a massive racist so it would only make sense for him to be in power somehow. You could say he paved the way for Nazi salute era Di Canio (.......) But I digress.

Travelling!!!

I just got back from my much advertised trip to America late October. That was an incredible trip. My original plan was to travel Japan for a month, but then I saw flights to New York for £200 and couldn't turn down the deal.

Japan 2020 here we come though!

I know you were taking a piss, just a little lecture: I live nowhere near (former) Yugoslavia. That's now Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Montenegro, and Macedonia.

I'm from, you know, former Czechoslovakia.
