Sleepin Around

This song is always stuck in my head and I hate it.

Probably one of my least favorite SY songs, and for that matter I think Thurston sounds really creepy throughout it.

That's about all I got.

noisereductions 08.25.2009 09:07 PM

It's definitely my least favorite on RR. The only one I skip.

samuel 08.25.2009 09:07 PM

I think everyone agrees... it would be really, really cool with better lyrics.

pinkstation 08.25.2009 09:11 PM

AHHH for like 3 weeks since i listen to RR last my head has just been:

"sleepin around, sleeping around what will they neighbors think?"
then
"..always ends up in a fight"

probably the worst lyrics by them ive ever heard

samuel 08.25.2009 09:13 PM

Yeah, I think the song is pretty ace otherwise.

Even my mom made fun of it one day while we were driving. She started singing "Drivin' the car, drivin' the car, what would the neighbors say?" It was pretty hilarious.

hahahahah thats great

Anngella 08.25.2009 09:23 PM

My mom made fun of Drunken Butterfly when I played it in the car a few years ago.

I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOu~~!~@

samuel 08.25.2009 09:26 PM

moms...

infinitemusic 08.25.2009 10:13 PM

I completely agree. Stuck in head and annoying. The worst combination. Once in Jr. high I had this shitty Britney Spears song stuck in my head for weeks. I swear to God.

dirty bunny 08.25.2009 10:37 PM

it is catchy but I like it. I'm gonna put it on a mix cd

BushIsAPsycho 08.25.2009 11:15 PM

yes speaking of moms I remember I bought NYC ghosts and flowers the day it came out and I was so excited but when I got home we had to have dinner and I couldn't wait to listen to it so I played the CD while we were eating and she really hated it but I loved it

Satan 08.25.2009 11:20 PM

i havent listened to rather ripped in three years and im listening to it again and it's actually alright. but that song has absolutely the worst lyrics. and i still hate reena. violently.

rats and pink steam are great.

i <3 helen lundeberg.

fugazifan 08.25.2009 11:36 PM

really? i bought the RR without the bonus tracks and only a few months downloaded those two tracks and thought that they were incredibly under par, even by RR standards.
reena is great and pink steam and jams run free arre really good songs. and insinirate gives me warm feelings of nostalgia for the summer of 06.
other than that i dont really listen to much of the album. eternal is way beter.
and yes sleeping around is their blandest song. although it does have one of their only "proper" guitar solos.

Satan 08.25.2009 11:42 PM

the eternal is kind of like RR part two

dionysusundone 08.25.2009 11:48 PM

I can actually listen to RR only if I pretend it's another band. It came on shuffle on my ipod in the car the other day and it was really nice for a summer drive.

infinitemusic 08.26.2009 12:11 AM

I can't really comment on how I feel about RR as a whole because I haven't really listened to it that many times, but I really don't care. I feel like there are a million albums I would probably appreciate more and are more worthy of appreciation (if that makes sense) if I gave them the time it would take to get into RR. It's just boring. I like the songs, I mean, they're all laid back, acceptable, catchy pop songs and there are a few that strike me as interesting. But so what?

No way!

(pun intended).

But really, besides a couple of track, they're reeeeeally different imo.

Satan 08.26.2009 12:31 AM

kind of like

SuperCreep 08.26.2009 12:46 AM

I'm torn between this one and Lights Out as far as my least-favorite SY song is concerned.

Theremin 08.26.2009 12:50 AM

What a waste is worse. Reena is pretty bad as well, and Rats is whitout a doubt the blandest Ranaldo-song in their catalogue.
Though RR has it's moments: Incinerate, Rapture, Jams Run Free.

that's funny as hell, one time i was sharing my (apparently popular) opinion w/ my friend about this song and said "anything would sound better than what he's singing, even 'driving around, driving around...'"

..am i your mom?

BushIsAPsycho 08.26.2009 03:43 AM

I like RR, it's nostalgic for me too
Turqoise Boy is one of my fav songs on there
anyone know what Thurston says at the very beginning of that song?

SonicBebs 08.26.2009 04:36 AM

there was a youtube 'in the studio' kinda film around RR's release. They had a instrumental version of Sleeping Around playing and it was incredible. Much much better than RR version

EvdWee 08.26.2009 04:56 AM

wasn't that just a loop of the riff played?

EvdWee 08.26.2009 04:58 AM

no, you're right: http://www.sonicyouth.com/videos/summer_05.mov

Eliminator Jr. 08.26.2009 05:25 AM

Sleeping Around is really good musically. If it wasn't for the lyrics it'd be one of the best of the album. I still listen to it and think it's a good listen, but I'm afraid the lyrics really drag it down.

damn right

hi, by the way

chrome noise tape 08.26.2009 08:18 AM

musically sounds good ( i like the bass riff ) not my best from R.R (helen lundberg is my fav.) but it's ok...i'm more into the sound than the words...i don't care who is sleeping around (that's a thing i need to do more, to sleep)

noisereductions 08.26.2009 08:33 AM

"Reena" is one of the best SY songs of the last 10 yrs. (I'll say it again).

Satan 08.26.2009 08:34 AM

reena makes me throw up

Rats and Pink Steam are the only 2 on there I ever listen to. I end up skipping everything else. But..Sleepin around did catch my ear, cause I find that type of lifestyle dispicable. I am a total monogamy lover.

Sleepin around is ignorant and selfish.

No offense meant. I am a beliver in god, (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH CHURCH) but I am not a judgemental bitch who hates everyone that does not think like I do. This is only my opinion that I have gathered through my own life experiences. In a world that is constantly pumping in the idea that life is about sex, someone has to say something; cause the only ones I hear sayin anything are "god fearing" hypocrites who are FAKE so no one listens anyway. I am not fake I do what I say. I am a sinner and accept myself as such. I do not think this way cause some preacher told me to.

Yes, I have slept around and it only led to hurting others as well as myself. I only did it cause I WANTED the attention that the pigs gave me. Then they left me on the curb cause they already got what they were looking for. I WAS SELFISH AND IGNORANT. Ignorant because I was under the impression that sex brings love and spreads love. Selfish for not thinking of how I was affecting someone else's life. What if I did get pregnant? Then I would have to choose between a child's life or mine. If I chose the child's life how great of a life would they have had from a teenage single uneducated mother? Not to mention the father of the child or my parents lives. If I had not pursued my own selfish desire for attention the the choice would not have had to been made in the first place. I consider myself lucky that I did'nt contract any diseases or spread them. I was blessed not to have gotten pregnant at 15. That is why I have come to this conclusion. Love has nothing to do with sex. Sex alone makes only the body happy love makes you happy. I never liked sex until I found someone I loved. I just thought I was supposed to like it cause all the girls on TV did.
I was hurt because of others selfishness. I was given no love. People just slept around behind my back and left me to endure the pain they caused.
All I'm sayin is that everywhere I look, everyone is sayin fuck anything you want who cares about the cosequences. We have reverted to animals. When I watch tv, every show is innundated with sexual innuendos..Every other commercial is for viagra, herpes medicine, the morning after pill, condoms, ky jelly. There are so many herpes commercials cause everyone's spreadin around like it's gold. If people don't take the consequences into account they are gonna be in for a big surprise when the shit hits the fan.:)

Thanks! But it isn't all about religion and my beliefs. It is a matter of logical sense.:)
