what bands have you burnt out on?

i just realized that i haven't listened to led zeppelin since i was in 11th grade! so i tried listening to it today and it was really annoying. i know it's good music but i just can't bring myself to listen to it anymore. i think it's because zeppelin was all i listened to in 11th grade and when i put it on now it brings back memories of that time. but plant's voice is pretty annoying too. also nirvana i can't listen to it or look at kurt anymore without wanting to throw up or cry or frown. I think those are the only two bands that i absolutely can't listen too, but there are others but not as bad as these two. what are yours?

Yeah, I played the living hell out of Zeppelin all through 8th grade. At the time, they were one of the few bands I listened to, and consequently probably my favorite (along with T. Rex). But yeah, I suppose the reason I've burnt out on them, so to speak, is because of how often I played them, but probably more importantly because I had barely listened to any other music at the time, so I had no basis for comparison. I didn't know what my tastes were, exactly. That's not to say I don't like the band--I have all but one of their albums, and I would never consider getting rid of those that I do have--but they just aren't as exciting now as they were when I was 13. Still, I have no idea what I would be listening to today if it hadn't been for "Dazed and Confused." That song changed my life. Along with Zeppelin and T. Rex, I listened to a lot of Bowie and Hendrix. So you can see already how I could have either gone down the path of Zeppelin and Hendrix representing some of the roots of heavy metal, or gone the glam rock way which eventually leads to punk rock. The next pivotal moment in my sequence of musical discoveries was my purchase of the New York Dolls' first album, followed soon by The Stooges' Fun House. It could have gone either way--I mean, I could just as easily be on some other board right now talking about how Black Sabbath distracted me from pursuing an interest in glam rock and punk. But that's not how it worked out. Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is that Led Zeppelin rules.

krastian 05.31.2006 02:46 AM

Ha ha....good call.

I really dug Dismemberment Plan for a while. Saw them open for someone and they were amazing live and I got Emergency & I and loved it so much...but now I lost all interest in them.

Okay, I'll confess. I burned out pretty badly on Sonic Youth around the time of Dirty and EJSTNS. Dirty was a disappointment musically, too grunge-like and insufficiently different to what was going on at the time, and EJSTNS was just downright annoying and too riot grrl influenced.

sometimes i get this with .... and i do apologise for any backlash
Nirvana.

i've been listening to the for at least 15 years, and sometimes i just need a break

And considering how they're not gonna come up with any new output for a while...

the cure..
cannot listen to "kiss me" album anymore..
get flashbacks of depression and paranoia..

it is called a "self-induced psychosis"...

_slavo_ 05.31.2006 06:04 AM

Radiohead...
for obvious reasons.
Last good album was Kid A

alyasa 05.31.2006 06:38 AM

I guess, The Pixies and Isolee. Currently, that is.

Likewise. I'll have a week every now and then where I listen to them... I just don't feel compelled to listen to them always.

It'll be sad day if I ever burn out on the Fall though.

RdTv 05.31.2006 06:49 AM

I burned out on Wilco. Looking back I find it hard to believe I actually listened to them with so much frequency.
