i do have a very big tolerance when it comes to people's voices; like so many people hate billy corgan's voice, i don't mind it at all

same with s-k, it gets a little overblown some times, like they have her scream a long goat's call on purpose or something. but most of the time i don't mind at all

Yeah. The Woods may have been my favorite album of 2005. Big, raunchy guitars. Passionate vocal performances. Terrific drumming. Infectious melodies that you can't get out of your head. Excellent production. And "Let's Call it Love" just oozes sexuality. Good times.

I guess I can understand the hate for Corin's vocals, but I've never had a problem with them. In fact, I enjoy her singing quite a bit. I even like Heavens To Betsy, the band Corin was in before S-K. And yeah, up until The Woods they were very pop-rock/punk, but there's nothing wrong with that. They're good songwriters with catchy tunes and good performers. They aren't the best or most revolutionary band in the world, but I find them to be one of the more compelling "rock" acts around.

And I don't see how they play up the gender issue.

Sleater-Kinney is REPETITIVE.
and i hate repetition.
and i don't want to hate Sleater-Kinney.
that is why i pretend they only have the first album i've ever heard and loved by them : One Beat.
and i literally don't care about the rest of the albums because if i listen to them too much and analyze , i will hate them.

The Woods > One Beat

By a mile.

I definitely agree. Sleater-Kinney is one of my favorite bands ever---and Call the Doctor and The Woods are fantastic. I know a lot of people are alienated by Carrie's/Corin's voices but it just takes a lot of listens sometimes. But I understand that it is hard to get past jarring vocals. I have been trying to see them for 5 years and I am finally catching a show in 4 weeks.

Anngella 04.21.2006 06:37 PM

At first I wasn't too fond of her voice either, but it eventually grew on me, and now they're one of my favorite bands :)

CHOUT 04.21.2006 07:35 PM

All Hands On The Bad One is my favorite of them all, then One Beat.
I love Corin's singing. Actually Carrie's valleygirle-sque inflections bug me slightly sometimes, only slightly though.
This is probably S-K blasphemy, but I think Dig Me Out is pretty overrated, I'd rather listen to The Hot Rock.
Now that I've listened to The Woods alot I've decided it is a nice change of stylistic pace, but I prefer their original sound. Lotsa cool guitar interplay.

Anngella 04.21.2006 07:38 PM

I don't understand why people say things are overrated ..it's usually when they don't like something that everyone else does, and a lot of the time it seems as though they're just saying it to sound "cool" or the like~

Anngella 04.21.2006 08:17 PM

Actually, it's freakin' overrated.
Learn how to type you twit~

I usually try to avoid that word, but from my friends and articles etc, Dig Me Out seems to be considered their masterwork, their best. I bought it because that was my impression, and a good place to start. I wasn't that impressed with it and didn't get into them until I heard One Beat later on.
If you think I'm just trying to sound cool yr dead wrong. Just offering my opinion...XOXO

Tickerwelly 04.21.2006 08:57 PM

I don't know about this band. I've liked the recent stuff I've heard by them but I didn't care to watch them live. All their songs seemed to sound the same.

laserbeard 04.21.2006 09:16 PM

much like Crucial Taut, these gals can wail.
i saw them live last fall.
the walls shook.

The Hot Rock for me as well ... I'm surprised it's not a common fan favourite.

Genteel Death 11.15.2010 05:52 AM

They'd make a great instrumental band.
