Music Paper Round Up.

Wondered if anyone could add to the list of music paper currently in circulation. I've tried to cover some in the UK but it'd be nice to know what the score is elsewhere.

NME - This once great weekly is the last remaining of the big three: Melody Maker and Sounds having now folded. Despite attempts to diversify, the NME still worships at the alter of Indie-lite (The Long Blondes, Klaxons, etc.). Read by those who get it for free (like me) and - well that's stumped me actually - thinking of anyone actually paying for it these days. Summed up by the fact that it still seems to think Oasis are 'significant'.

Artrocker - Shameless bid to fill the gap left by the NME's decline. Obsessively London-centric, the journos get a hard on at just the faintest mention of the words "Bloc" and "Party".

Kerrang - What was once a safe haven for bum-fluff infested Maiden and Priest fans has now discarded its bullet belt for a decidely Emo-friendly make over. At least in the pre-Grunge days it used to be funny.

The Wire - Pretentious monthly covering all things 'difficult'. Seems to be obsessed with coining stupid sub-categories for all types of music. The words "up its own arse" don't even begin to tell the whole story.

Plan B - Probably the best alternative to the NME and Artrocker. The only problem here is that the whole affair is so coloured by its editor Everett True's obsession with how so much more indier-than-thou he is. It's big into Deerhoof at the mo.

Terrorizer - Whilst it claims to cover extreme music of all kinds, in fact it's a glossy fanzine for all things that occupy the fringes of Metal. Loves nothing more than to dedicate 10 pages to the cultural significance of Celtic Frost.

Q - Much loved by U2 fans who want to find out a little more about that band called Coldplay they keep hearing about.

Mojo - Horrible propaganda sheet for all things Paul Weller related. As such expect tons of coverage dedicated to Oasis, Kasabian and, heaven help us, Ocean Colour Scene come back rumours.

Classic Rock - Designed for people who find Q magazine a bit too contemporary. We here may all know that Led Zep have split up, but not the writers of this mag.

Record Collector - Wanna know how much that orig. Moody Blues fan-club-issued 7 inch is? No? Don't buy Record Collector then.
