Songs with confusing sounds.

I couldn't think of a better name, sorry.

Have any of you ever been listening to a song and thought you heard someone call your name or a faint screaming, then when you turn the music off so you can hear this noise better you realize that it's actually in the song?
Haha it's kind of hard to explain.

Every time I listen to Chinese Takeaway by the Adicts there's this sound at like 1:59 (they repeat it after too) and I ALWAYS think it's my mom calling my name.
Then in Coral Fang by the Distillers there's this scream every once in a while in the background and I always think it's my mom getting scared hahah.

Many years ago, I was listening to the first Onyx LP on my Walkman. It was the first time I'd heard it, and at one point there's a guy yells or something (I can't remember too well). For a moment I thought someone was attcking me. EMbarrassing and funny.

On Boxoctosis Alarum, by The Fall (the version on Interim), a smoke alarm goes off half way through the song and continues for some time.

Whenever I listen to Deanna by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, I have to convince myself that I don't really hear our home telephone faintly ringing in the background.

I have a problem with phone noises and police sirens in songs.
Phone sounds are deceptive when you have the stereo up loud, and siren sounds suck to listen to while driving!

I was listening to J Mascis + the Fog's "Where'd You Go" and I could have sworn it was someone calling my name, but very subtley and kind of blurred. Like I dodn't really know if someone was really calling out to me. There's also another song that I can't remember that drives me nuts every single time I play it because at one point it sounds like there is a police siren right outside my door. Crazy, man. Crazy

I used to listen to System of A Down, and I swear there's someone talking in the background of Chop Suey; barely audible in the brief pauses during the chorus. It always bugged the hell outta me because I would always think someone was talking to me, then look around and find no one's there. It sounds exactly like what you hear when someone's trying to talk to you but the music is too loud.

And yes, I hate siren-like sounds when I'm driving.

There's a song I used to listen to many years ago, and at a certain point I always thought it was my mum calling me. I haven't thought about this for at least 20 years, but now it's going to drive me mad trying to think what it was. Thanks!!!

When songs - specifically Babe I'm Going to Leave You - Led Zeppelin - in which 'baby' is repeated over and over, I begin to think it says Bailee, my sisters name.

Other then that, no.

"Stag Party" by the Cherubs features the sound of an off-the-hook phone throughout the song in a deliberate attempt to disorientate the listener.

I used to hear the phone ring, pause stereo, hear no phone ringing, turn stereo back on, hear phone ringing, realise it's the high frequency of the cymbols.

Only certain bands though, or perchance one band in particular that I can't remember. Don't know.

Cantankerous 07.19.2006 06:13 AM

YES. I always hear my mom going "Lillian!" or "Hey Lilly!" and then you know, she's obviously not there. I always hear it on "I Think That I Would Die" (Hole).

LittlePuppetBoy 07.19.2006 12:13 PM

In the song Rockin' the Kasbah by the Clash, whenever that beeping noise comes on (at the end of each verse in the middle) I keep thinking that's a cell phone going off.

Danny Himself 07.19.2006 12:23 PM

Somewhere in a Sonic Youth record I too think someone is calling my name. I can't believe everyone else has so many experiences of this too.

gmku 07.19.2006 01:51 PM

In the last song on Television's Adventure, in the first minute or so, there are high-sounding cymbal noises or something that never fail to spook me. If I have the headphones on especially. They make me think a phone is ringing or an alarm is going off in the distance.

My dogs bark at the animal noises on the reprise of Sgt. Pepper.
