interpol appreciation?

so.. i've just heard 'turn on the bright lights' album, and it's good, song stella was a driver..., and nyc are the best i think.

Derek 08.09.2008 06:24 AM

Turn on the Bright Lights is good

everything else... eh... not so much

Trasher02 08.09.2008 07:51 AM

I still enjoy listening to that album from time to time. Antics and Our love to admire were pretty horrible.

_slavo_ 08.09.2008 08:07 AM

There was a good song on the first album ... it was called PDA.

batreleaser 08.09.2008 08:13 AM

no me gusta

screamingskull 08.09.2008 10:52 AM

Turn On The Bright Lights is wonderful, Antics not so good, and Our Love To Admire only had a couple of good songs on it.

I'd just stick with Turn On The Bright Lights.

Ditto. 'Leif Erikson' being my favourite song maybe, or 'Obstacle 1'.

screamingskull 08.09.2008 10:58 AM

I'm still completely in love with Stella Was A Diver And She Was Always Down, such a great song!!!!! :D

PAULYBEE2656 08.09.2008 11:01 AM

turn on the bright lights is one of the best debut albums of all time..... maybe one weak track on it at the most. stunning album

antics is pretty weak in comparison... 4 stunning tracks, the rest so so..

our love to admire is plain awful. terrible terrible album

Derek 08.09.2008 11:03 AM

I like the first single off Our Love to Admire, it was hella catchy. But then I listened to the album and ALL the songs sounded the same except way duller.

Yeah but;

"SHE CAN READ, SHE CAN READ, SHE CAN READ, OH SHE'S BAAAAAAD"

Dead-Air 08.09.2008 11:10 AM

I'm in agreement with everybody who's posted so far. I have no idea why they did what they did after the first album. Seems like they through their sound and their fans out the window.

o'connor 08.09.2008 01:01 PM

I love the first song on it, cant remember the name, but obstacle number one sounds somehow right...

SuperCreep 08.09.2008 03:12 PM

I got bored of TOTBL really quickly, but it still has a few good tracks. The other two are just shit front to back.

atsonicpark 08.09.2008 04:27 PM

Turn on the Bright Lights is listenable.

Everything else bites the poop.

demonrail666 08.09.2008 04:45 PM

TotBL is a great debut. I can't understand why their later stuff never came even close.

ricechex 08.09.2008 05:25 PM

Yeah, the first one is solid. But they got dull quick on their follow ups.

o'connor 08.09.2008 06:29 PM

i can't believe no one likes the other 2 albums. granted there not as good but there's still a good amount of good stuff on em. rest my chemistry from our love to admire is fucking brilliant!

StevOK 08.09.2008 06:31 PM

Obstacle 1 is the one of my all time favorite songs.

demonrail666 08.09.2008 06:36 PM

That is a great song. I think it was the first thing I'd heard by them and was sort of resisting them up till that point. It just really got to me. Love it. Would possibly be one of my entries on the 'perfect songs' thread.

MellySingsDoom 08.09.2008 06:37 PM

Interpol are great, but I can't help but think that "Slow Hands" is a total Joy Division rip-off...which nonetheless happens to be one of my fave songs of theirs.

demonrail666 08.09.2008 06:42 PM

Yeah, although I sort of get a bit narked when people just reduce them to that JD/Television thing. The influence is definitely there but, on the first album at least, it's not really overwhelming.

Leif Erikson is my favorite song of the album.

MellySingsDoom 08.09.2008 06:44 PM

Question - Does "Obstacle 1" sound like "Exercise One" at all?

demonrail666 08.09.2008 06:45 PM

Obstacle 1, Leif Erikson and NYC for me, and maybe the intro, actually.

Haha. Actually it sounds like Exercise One with Tom Verlaine on guitar. Which does sort of completely destroy my entire argument in one fell swoop. Shit!

*remembers not to remember JD next time I meet Herr Demon*
*Decides to lend him my copy of the "These Are The Young Men" video instead*

Arf, and again, Arf!

I'm just waiting for Cantanky to tell me off on this point :p;)

demonrail666 08.09.2008 06:59 PM

Yeah, when I think about it they really are just Television playing Joy Division songs. The scoundrals!

MellySingsDoom 08.09.2008 07:01 PM

*Puts on "Shadowplay" and does indie-goth chicken dance*

demonrail666 08.09.2008 07:42 PM

"Puts on "Obstacle 1" and feels cheated"

Landry 08.09.2008 07:45 PM

interpol are a bore

demonrail666 08.09.2008 07:59 PM

a bunch of cheating bores is what they are.

MellySingsDoom 08.09.2008 08:08 PM

A bunch of beating chores.
*Writes down that for next Budisov song*

whorefrost 08.09.2008 08:27 PM

they're okay. my favourite song is the final one on Antics. I also like Evil. So Antics is OK. About as good as the first album, really.

atsonicpark 08.09.2008 10:31 PM

Yes, shadowplay is definitely the best Interpol song.

...er...

(old, tired joke I made saying how every Interpol song sounded like Joy Division's shadowplay)

PAULYBEE2656 08.10.2008 05:01 AM

i dont think they sound like joy division at all... just because paul banks hasnt got a real note in his head doesnt mean he is ripping the shit out of curtis.... they are more u2 than joy division i reckon...

Trasher02 08.10.2008 05:06 AM

You know the big difference between Joy Division and Interpol is that Joy Division usually sounds very cold and hollow while Interpol doesn't sound that primitive. Interpol songs have alot more going on based on the instruments that is.

Either way Joy Division > Interpol big time hands down.
