I started it because I was curious to see how many different albums I'd listen to over the year (and inevitably be embarrassed at how much I listened to Pinkerton or American Idiot or other shit like that). Mainly, whether it was more or less than 500.

hahaha!

i would never do that for fun, but you do you, and be great at it, and enjoy

Good luck on your new project Claire! Did you consider to add some form of grading? E.g. 0 - 5 stars, and potentially 6 stars for the Ultramega O.K. albums

I just mentioned what I'm listening to, subliminally

Been there, done that.

Now I just use my handy dandy notes app on my phone. List an album if I like it, give it a couple asterisks if I love it. Don’t list albums I hear that I don’t care for, because what’s the point?

Nisennenmondai
The drummer sounds like a human drum machine.

On one of their first albums there is a song namd "Sonic Youth ". They've hugely improved their sound over the years

see, with something like this, it becomes more sciency (is that a word? lol) and you could maybe plug that database into an ai that would dj for you. (i mean this for claire)

i think the thumbs up or down on an app is an easier way to achieve similar result but if you could get into the guts of the thing and figure out your own algorithm then you could be onto something. the way that i think it was pandora used (uses?) the music genome project?

i mean if you could plug your preferences into the genome database you could break down exactly what you like

then you coulpd program an ai to replace you, and it would post for you not just here but in 10,000 boards and social accounts. and you could make music fashionable at will. and people would hire you for it, as a kind of payola. and then the independent musicians would sit in council andnhire a contract killer to take down your ai. and after much actiony stuff she would die in your arms and tell you that she always loved you. and in the next book you’d make a kali ai to bring the end times to the world. and you’d start with the members of the council of independent musicians, and halfway through the 2nd book you realize that all the new music is starting to suck because your ai murdered the talent. at which point you realize you’re now an old person and retire to the mountains to meditate. and the kali ai meanwhile running amok in the world is speeding things up. but there’s a new girl with coding superpowers who is trying to stop it. at this point ratings drop because things are getting shambolic and the network fires the showrunners, but things get even more ridiculous and the show gets cancelled. but since you’ve been all along meditating in the mountains you’re ready to let go of the world and move your consciousness into the internet where you become a networked bodhisattva.

mainstream critics would dismiss the show as “pointless” and “derivative” and mock the cheapness of the special effects, but after becoming a cult tv show in the logo channel there’d be a movie sequel 20 years after, at which point all movies would be holograms piped into the mind, and in the holomovie you’d find the resurrected corpse of your murdered ai, and burn your saffron robes, and with her by your side flee imminent destruction by the kali ai in a spaceship to the unknown, like in the planet of the apes when cornelius and zira escape the final h bomb, and then critics again would say “why did this shitty holofilm have to be made?” and they’d be right, this time, they’d be right.

Listening to the setlist of a mixtape (CD) I had compiled for a friend that had departed for a cross-South America trip last year. Mostly to escape the existential dread the clinking-clanking sounds of a typewriter conjure up in my very soul right now.

That's...something, !@#$%!.

I'm not going to give them a rating at this point, I'll judge it on the fact that if I listen to an album twenty times this year I probably like it.

So why do you have 'em? Oh, wait, you don't have 'em, you stream 'em... Which, on the other hand, technically means that everybody has everything.

Fuck the world. Not that it's gonna last long. Drumpf just went to war with Iran, soon there will be no Arctic, no Amazonia, no Australia, no freakin' California, no democracy, so screw it, book me a seat on Darth Bezos' rocketship to Mars already.

^ You should be more worried than me. It's not my country that's burning to the core.

choc e-Claire 01.03.2020 09:57 PM

a) I gave up hope long ago, and b) I'm mocking your anti-streaming complaint more than any of the other stuff.

Didn't we do this already? Several times?

Nice, the Thunberg generation is just like all that preceded it.

Yes I don’t spend money on buying albums I don’t like. One of the benefits of streaming. I still buy hard copies of many of the albums I do like, actually (when hard copies are available), though admittedly not as much as I did prior to steaming.

There's plenty of live videos of The Carpenters on YT. I've watched them all today.

BBC 1971 is a good one in which she still does most of the drumming all by herself.
