KM: Put simply, I love music that is beautiful. Which is why my favourite music is that made by troubadours. There is something ineffably beautiful about the voices and ensembles in that music. The bassist in AMT, Atsushi Tsuyama, taught me that the roots of troubadour music are found in the Occitan region of France. Tsuyama is well known in Japan for his encyclopaedic knowledge of European trad music. As I see it, in Occitan trad music we can catch fleeting glimpses of extreme melodies, and the power of song demonstrated in this music carries a far greater weight than in other musics. This truly is the music of the heavens. Recently I have become fascinated by the music of Sardinia. If Occitan music is the sound of heaven, then Sardinian music is the sound of the earth.

I know, kawabata made a wonderful collaboration with a band from my hometown too (now they're on sub pop, Jennifer Gentle, oh, how fast time goes by, I used to go and see them playing in school gyms and stuff and buy their self-pressed releases), I'm just a bit pissed, usually they do dates over here...

yeah, I posted their collaboration (it's a live "The Wrong Cage", with a sarongi solo and kawabata playing with them a couple tracks, reaaaaaly psichedelic sounds ha ha ) on the first pages of the "post rare out of print etc" but I think i edited the link out when i realized it was available in the sub pop online store.... you want it? or you want JG records? we could arrange something :D :D ;) .

sun city girl 09.20.2007 09:14 AM

no austria date.

sonicl 09.21.2007 05:46 AM

Four dates in Switzerland, none in Austria? That's daft!

A Thousand Threads 09.21.2007 05:50 AM

yeah, let us hunt their booking agent.

pokkeherrie 09.21.2007 08:35 AM

Yay, the Stubnitz is back in Holland. Plus, it appears AMT are playing with Circle that night as well!

To those unfamiliar with the Stubnitz, it's an old east-german transport ship that serves as a mobile music/art platform nowadays and sails through various ports in Europe.

Re: Stubnitz...

Does anyone know where this is? And how big is that sculpture???

pokkeherrie 09.21.2007 09:15 AM

I reckon that's in Amsterdam and that it's photoshopped. The XXX-logo on the fish is from the city logo of Amsterdam, but there's no Colossus there like the Greeks had on Rhodes.

I've only been to the Stubnitz when it was docked in Rotterdam though, so I don't know what the Amsterdam location looks like.

Iain 10.29.2007 11:41 AM

Yeah, they played Cardiff last year to a surprisingly (for Cardiff) good crowd. But no Cardiff show this time around. Might try and catch them in Bristol.

jon boy 10.29.2007 11:44 AM
