those are some sweet pics. I never got to see REM live.

blunderbuss 09.10.2008 09:45 AM

I saw them once on the Green tour, just before they made the move up from halls to arenas, and they were stunning. I saw them again on the Up tour, and wished I hadn't.

PAULYBEE2656 09.10.2008 09:46 AM

ive always been an admirer from a distance but i went through a stape of listening to their entire discography a few months back.... i am an admirer from close up now!

Everyneurotic 09.10.2008 09:56 AM

never have and never will see them live.

_slavo_ 09.10.2008 10:00 AM

HECKLER SPRAY 09.10.2008 08:10 PM

I saw them at the Rock en Seine Festival last month. It was not so bad, but it's not the kind of band I like to see live, it's too.... you know, mainstream, catchy,...

greedrex 09.10.2008 08:12 PM

^^damn u must have been gutted to miss A.Whinehouse.

HECKLER SPRAY 09.10.2008 08:17 PM

No, I didn't want to see her show, I was the only one who was laughing when they 've announced the cancellation.

Dead-Air 09.10.2008 08:58 PM

I saw them in '95 (Sonic Youth were opening, only reason I was there) and they were incredibly boring and the exact opposite of energetic. I tried to be open minded, but they really reminded me of what seeing the Stones in '82 must have been like - old guys wearing clothes they look ridiculous in trying to act sexy while sidemen carried them through their own songs. I left after about 5 songs figuring I wouldn't have to deal with parking lot hassles then.

baby bulldog 09.10.2008 09:48 PM

All the REM shows I've seen were in the 80's......and outside of one or two times they were always amazing.

Well, yeah, I know... but in my defence, I think that, historically, Up was quite a bad period for REM. They were still in the process of regrouping after Bill Berry quit, and were probably as close as they've ever been to calling it a day. Their live shows at the time kind of reflected that uncertainty.

Hell, they even had some decent albums in the '80s too. At least at first...

Was that when they were touring Monster? I'd have liked to have seen that tour.

I think Up is their masterpiece. Its beautiful and warm

I saw rem at twickenham the other week. It was amazing. A real good sing along and dance along. It wasn't pretending to be cutting edge, they played the hits, rocked it, danced and smiled big smiles. We danced and sang and smiled big smiles back at them
genius gig

Trasher02 09.11.2008 05:01 AM

I saw them a couple of years ago at Werchter-festival. It was very mediocre but then again I'm not that big of a fan.

SonicBebs 09.11.2008 05:21 AM

ah At first I really did't like Accelerate ( the last album) , 'cause I thought it was superficial and quite boring..
Then I saw them live..I must admit that Accelerate sounds really good live!

I did see them. I had to do a little research to make sure--that's how big an impact the show was. Shea Stadium, 18 august 1983. Their show was notable in that the field of the stadium, unlike during songs from Joan Jett and the Police, did not move under the motion of the crowd.

Shit. How many of you weren't even alive then?

Grete 09.12.2008 12:05 PM

at Arena Civica I was on the parterre too, in the field , you know, in the third row ..and I had no problems at all..only when Michael approached the first row..well I had been a little pressed..but nothing serious..
