Sonic Youth/Swans Tour

A postcard to the world. Show them how it's done once more, please. I hate nostalgia.

Genteel Death 11.06.2010 09:53 AM

And you can stay at my house if Gira sleeps in the bathroom.

Dead-Air 11.06.2010 10:01 AM

Indeed that would be awesome. I vote yes!

Adolfo 11.06.2010 10:58 AM

Couldn't hurt trying... right?

SuperCreep 11.06.2010 12:09 PM

judging from recent interviews, the principle of the thing would bother him. he doesn't seem like one to dabble in nostalgia.

i'm sure he's fairly well off now anyway with young god having to backorder the new LP when it was released and all the touring, etc.

I don't know what current feelings are, but I seem to remember Gira and Lee pretty much despising each other once upon a time.

That said, def. a show I wouldn't mind attending.

*question answered*

I don't remember her saying that (I know she said it about GG), but it wouldn't surprise me. There is a story about an early Swans show that states Gira jumped off stage and beat up these two punk rock kids (a boy + his GF) that were pogo dancing. He said he did so because "it looked like they were having too much fun".

So, it's possible Kim dislikes, or disliked, him for that reason.

SuperCreep 11.06.2010 09:31 PM

there was an interview recently where the interviewer kept pressing gira's opinion on SY until he was like, "sonic youth are the monkees and i'm jimi hendrix."

someone on facebook asked him about it and he was all, "it was a joke taken out of context. i don't have anything against sonic youth. thurston is a pretty cool guy. besides, kim used to call us jefferson starship back in the day."

something to that effect.

SuperCreep 11.06.2010 09:38 PM

perhaps i spoke too soon. hrm.

Well, I invite everyone to get the word to them that we'd like this to RAWK!

Meh. Playing all of Daydream Nation for a whole tour, I wasn't all over that. But two bands who have continued to grow and change sharing a bill years after they did before, that's not nostalgia. Granted, I'll freely admit that I'd be completely hopeful that they'd jam on "Kill Yr. Idols" at encore with irony in full view.

Adolfo 11.07.2010 07:11 AM

Facebook:
Michael Gira what a horrible idea.

Adolfo 11.07.2010 07:11 AM

So... no.

Dead-Air 11.07.2010 07:17 AM

Yeah, it does appear he's answered the petition.

Dead-Air 11.07.2010 03:58 PM

Michael Gira actually messaged me on FB and asked me to stop the group above. So I'm going to let it lie in respect for his wishes. He was entirely gracious in his correspondence.

Ghostchase 11.07.2010 06:50 PM

Why? What did Gira say? I wouldn't mind seeing Sonic Youth with The Pop Group.
