I'm listening to the album again kind of tipsy right now. And it's still awesome.

Yeah totally. Nurse and Rather Ripped both kind of bored me at first. The Eternal was love at first listen. That's unusual for me.

Magic Wheel Memory 04.28.2009 10:14 PM

HOLY SHIT! I can't remember the last time one of their records impressed me so much on the first listen. Is it because this record is so good, or is it just more instantly accessible than others? Time will tell. For now, I'm just really psyched to hear it more and more.

And they keep breaking new ground! Sure, there are some familiar moments here, but there's a lot of new stuff, even after 28 years and how many records?

alteredcourse 04.28.2009 10:16 PM

I think it's that this album is least from lazy. Theres a lot of energy, real energy.

It probably helps that it was truly sunny and warm for the first time of the year, after an exhausting overlong winter. And it was so hot out that it threatened to actually take off my hoodie (which I'd be reluctant to do at the mouth of a volcano). On my first listens, the sun is finally setting. This album and this day is giving me a bit of a breath of much needed relief, actually, mixed with an anticipation/excitement I havent felt in a long, long time.

Anyone else where an SY shirt today in anticipation of listening to the album?

Death & the Maiden 04.28.2009 11:14 PM

I haven't listened to it, but I can't help feeling that people are getting over-excited about it or something. I might listen to it later.

atsonicpark 04.28.2009 11:27 PM

Nah, it's actually pretty good. I wasn't overly excited to hear it.

I wore the same Black Flag shirt I had on yesterday. I forgot about this until I came onto the board and was convinced to do the pre-order.

Yeah if youre coming here for reviews at the moment you might find it overhyped. I'm glad I heard it before much of it though because I am easily influenced by hype.. and I genuinely enjoy it.

It's the Rather Ripped-effect. Whatever they were going to release next people were bound to like it.
Then again, it's certainly enjoyable upon first hearing.

static-harmony 04.29.2009 12:45 AM

Damn now I want to listen to this album I will await when it comes out.

Ditto. Calming the Snake is a lot better in this condition. Not that it was horrible before, but I find myself saying Fuck Yeah a lot more this time around. :D

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.29.2009 12:52 AM

Not enough love for Sacred Trickster and Calming the Snake in this thread. Both of which really rock.

nicfit 04.29.2009 01:53 AM

The more I listen, the more I love it. Lee's songs are incredible. The "energy" throughout the whole album feels pretty real ha ha!
great morning.

Yes, I think this'll be a record that sounds better the more you listen. (Whereas Rather Ripped sounded really good on first listen, and less so on each subsequent one, haha.)

summer 04.29.2009 03:53 AM

Lee's songs are the worst songs on the album. "What We Know" is lame. "Walkin Blue" is.. decent.

nicfit 04.29.2009 03:56 AM

Yeah, like, we have different opinions. Big deal, eh?

killthecaliforniagirls 04.29.2009 04:41 AM

hmmm... i had to notice that "an own opinion" is something that is not glady seen in this forum. not glady seen - is that wrong englisch by the way? i´m asking because that is NOT a matter of opinion :-)

are you insane? walkin blue is just AWESOME, one of the best ones

sy2004 04.29.2009 05:02 AM

my opinion is that it's yet another great addition to their discography and whatever any other so-called sy fan thinks doesn't bother me at all, that's their problem, not mine :p
