Shit, Steve even busts out the cymbal chokes for fucks sake.

Problem with RR: The eargasms are few and far between

duderanchnurse 04.28.2009 06:51 PM

agreed
turquoise boy is so underrated though
best song on rr imho

automatic bzooty 04.28.2009 06:51 PM

If this album is Sonic cheese (whaaaaaaaat), then cheese is delicious.

Other one: sleepin around+what a waste

what garbage songs
easily 2 of the worst sy ever

harlock_jds 04.28.2009 06:54 PM

RR was a fine album... probably the best of the past few 'hippie' albums. i don't know why saying this album is better is a insult to the previous album.

If anything RR had more forced sounding "oh yeah we need a noisy part right here" bits than this one. Sleeping around is a generic of a SY noise rocking soug as you can get.

Did it bother you on 1000 leaves?

yes exactly i'm so sick of the unwarranted pink steam love

krastian 04.28.2009 06:57 PM

Yeah, the vocals and vocal delivery at times can be kind of "cheesy" or maybe even rushed, but the music/melodies overall are awesome. However, some of their best lyrical moments in the 90's could be called cheesy just the same, but they are great.

I wouldn't call this a 5 star album or anything....after one and a halfish listens, I def. really like it and can't wait for the tour!!

Oh, and RR is the ONLY SY album that I don't listen to all the way through.....all I end up listening to (usually in the car) is Reena, Incinerate, Jams Run Free, and Rats. I don't see that happening with this one.

no because they were doing it in a different way there. from what i can tell nothing on ATL was similar to any album before, not too similar, anyhow.
The Eternal is like if you put Goo and Sonic Nurse into a blender but didn't actually mix them.

duderanchnurse 04.28.2009 07:00 PM

i personally think pink steam sucks
it's the eternal (yep :) ) thurston usual song since wildflower soul
always the same pattern:

wildflower-rain on tin-empty page-dripping dream-peace attack-pink steam

enough! at least the song nearest to this pattern is sung by kim (malibu) and that's well done!

the lyrics to "antenna" remind me of lou reed's "satellite of love." in a way.

killthecaliforniagirls 04.28.2009 07:07 PM

i´m so irritated that you all like this record. I´ll give it a next try tommorow because in germany it´s time to go to bed :-)

^ "the radio plays nothing when she's far away" part is one of my favorite moments of any album.

Yeah, I always thought that Pink Steam was just generic/vanilla Sonic Youth.

"OMG, BUT ITZ LONGR DAN 5 MINITS"

Honestly, it was the most predictable sounding SY song I had ever heard.

I mean, I don't hate it, but come on.

duderanchnurse 04.28.2009 07:10 PM

and it has this "Oh fuck, and we still have to write lyrics to it, let's do that quick, 1mnmax" vibe to it

radio plays nothing when cheese faaaaaar away
btw, the first "she" he sings has a totally cool vibrato
these small details influence very much my love for t's songs

Sonic Youth 37 04.28.2009 07:15 PM

IMO, Pink Steam is much better live. The build-up to the actual song is good, moreso than when the lyrics come in.
