Record sleeve looks awesome ...

UK release date?

Washing Machine 08.07.2007 08:10 PM

Its a terrible comparison and a perhaps unfair one but I think this album is going to be much stonger than Rather Ripped

k-krack 08.07.2007 10:17 PM

I'm super-excited for this. I kind of love the artwork, as bland as it is. It looks cool, and fitting for the more stirpped down (from what I've heard... not listened to it yet) sound.

Moshe 08.13.2007 02:00 AM

the official artwork?

k-krack 08.13.2007 02:09 AM

Is that really it...???
If so, it would look so much better if it were all solid colour...

SynthethicalY 08.13.2007 02:13 AM

I think if it was white background, then black.

k-krack 08.13.2007 02:17 AM

I prefer black background. It would be rad red-on-black, digipak cd case.
I imagine the vinyl will make me cream.

SynthethicalY 08.13.2007 02:19 AM

That too. Since it would be release in the fall, some light-dark colors would be suitable.

Jef Mertens 08.14.2007 01:25 PM

Here's how the artwork looks like (according to boomkat) and ordering can be done through Boomkat.

hansjoakim 08.14.2007 02:22 PM

will there be a vinyl version of the album?

Jef Mertens 08.15.2007 05:34 AM

Hey everybody-

We've got a new jam on our page: 'So Messed Up.' We've been playing this thing live for a year or more, and working on recording it for almost as long. This is a work-in-progress version which will be on a compilation to accompany the new Thurston Moore solo record 'Trees Outside the Academy.' Thurston's record comes out in September so that will be your chance to have this artifact on a shiny little disk. In the mean time please drop by our page and crank the tunes, which also include some live action from the past year and one track from the first record.

Thanks,

Tall Firs

So a compilation is acompanying Thurston's new record - might be the killer package Andrew was talking about.

Moshe 08.15.2007 05:49 AM

this is getting really exciting!

SynthethicalY 08.15.2007 05:50 AM

I can't wait to hear it in the fall. I haven't listened to it as much. Because I am waiting for the fall. This album will fit with the mood of the season.

sonicl 08.15.2007 06:02 AM

If there is a compilation with Trees Outside The Academy, then it's becoming a more and more exciting package all the time.

Moshe 08.15.2007 06:25 AM

Someone just sent me some pictures of the advance copy artwork. You can dl them here:

If the artwork for the promo looks that great I wonder how cool the official release will look like. Damn, I was thinking to get the CD and the LP. Now I have to try ebay for the promo too. Who do I have to sleep with to get that promo?

SynthethicalY 08.15.2007 06:47 AM

I like the simplistic booklet. I also like the picture of him.

"Trees Outside the Academy" Cover art:

The real art booklet has tons of thurston stylee originally laid out by the man himself.

The chip board package was a limited edition promo pre release type of thang sent to long lead press in the US and the UK. Printed by Manifesto Letterpress in our building in Easthampton, MA.

sonicl 08.15.2007 09:34 AM

That pic looks pretty great as a real photo rather than just monochrome. Will it be jewel case or cardboard?

akesin 08.15.2007 09:48 AM

Cover photo by a talented photographer multi medium designer named Rodger Bridges. http://www.rodgerbridges.com/

Moshe 08.15.2007 09:56 AM

The picture for Thurston's album was taken by Rodger Bridges from a SY gig at the Roxy in LA in 1988. An historic gig, in a way, since this was their showcase for West Coast major labels. Mark Kates of Geffen saw them here (and earlier at the Ritz, in NYC) and spread the word even more.
