i beg to differ. they released albums with "signature dissonance" for how maby years, and they have contuinued to be completely awesome. i do enjoy rather ripped, but im saying that this statement is incorrect.

NYC Ghosts & Flowers may have been a bit of a misstep, but there's still enough material on thier that's worth listening to. A Thousand Leaves also has a few great tracks as well. It's not one of their besat overall albums, but still some great songs. These albums are jsut a biut mellower than their 80's material. You have to learn to love it. I have no idea how you can sit there and honestly tell me you like Rather Ripped than any of these other albums. It's lunacy. Pure lunacy.

NYC is better than the last two albums by far....and A Thousand Leaves is better than all three....Rather Ripped surpasses all of four and is way more consistent than anything since Dirty.

It can't be "incorrect" for me to find the "signature dissonance" getting old. That is my opinion. To me, THAT is what is getting old--if they had done that I would say they are not trying. RR is an effort.

you provide a good argument, and i somewhat agree. but in my opinion, and apparently the opinion of many others, they seemed to show a little less... i don't know..ambition? tat isnt what i want to say, but i mean that it seems like in places where they should be making noise and having fun, they go right back to carefully planned picking and more serious stuff. all im saying is that they should have had more fun with it, made it more engaging to the common sonic ear. (but then again, they should do whatever they feel, but you know waht i mean)

Daycare Nation 08.03.2006 07:05 PM

I understand what that viewpoint is, but my ears don't hear it that way. My ears keep wanting to hear it again and again, and liking it more and more.

i understand completely. again, don't get the wrong idea, i love RR. just not as much as i COULD love RR.

Every man does. Even if they don't admit it. I'm not sure about Kim.

A better question might be do artists refrain from such an act to enhance creativity?
